"100,000 Fireflies" is pretty sad, as is "I Don't Believe in the Sun" from 69 Love Songs.

anything off leonard cohen's album songs of love and hate. it's hard to out-sad an album whose first line is, "i stepped into an avalanche."
also, "madame george" and "cyprus avenue" from van morrison's astral weeks.

"Brick Layer Cake"
I find this band to be, in equal parts, the funniest and saddest band ever.
