I dunno, he just said "we probably should have" when i interviewed him. It was in the response to my "why did you guys break up?" question, and it sounded like the song came out right around when they were getting a little tired of being in the band. They were on Futurist and that label was starting to concentrate on re-hashed hair metal, their bassist had just quit, and then "1979" came out, so i think they just said "fuck it."

Actually, the Smashing Pumpkins discovered grunge some time around 1990 or so.

Prior to that, they had even less balls. They played whiny wimp-rock along the lines of The Smiths, The Cure or early stuff by The Church.

i'm gonna go and get the illegal download version which will have all the songs on it. Then i will write to billy cuntface and tell him that he made me do it by being such a twat.
