Somewhere between The Future of What and Repetition, slight nod towards the latter. There are some good songs on their b-sides collection and New Plastic Ideas is good, haven't heard anything else.

I didn't realize how split the vote would be.

Leaves just does it for me. The second CD is the clincher. I've been known to repeat 'October All Over' and the gorgeous 'Below The Salt' until someone asks if the player is borked.

funny, after years and years i got on an unwound kick a month or two ago, i LOVE the "light at the end of the tunnel" ep, that record made me happy on all counts, including the minimalist packaging. I rebought "Fake train" and "Leaves turn inside you" and they reminded me of the evolution of this band and how long it seemed they were around.

my vote is for "leaves..." as i think it's a perfect cap to their career and evolution as a band. "repetition" is a jam as well. THey played two of the best shows i think i have ever seen.

1. Unwound/Los Crudos/Clikitat Ikatowi/Shotmaker/Promise Ring (ugh) i think in '95 at the Fireside in chicago.

2. Unwound/The Ex/The Ex/Unwound (double show) at Graceland in Seattle which i think might have been one of unwound's last shows, i could be wrong though. in 2001.

they are missed, maybe it's time for them to make an appearance at ATP? Although i kind of just want to have my memories of them in their prime.

Sigh. Oh, this show. I remember the day. June 30th. It figures heavily into something I contributed to a documentary that will be coming out soon that many of you on EA are anticipating. I have no idea if my story will be used or released, which is fine either way. If I find out it's not, I'll tell the story on why this show was a big memory for me.

Aside from that, this show was one of the best ever. This was my first time seeing The Ex, long overdue, and wow... just fucking wow. Vern walked by me later and said "man, why were we allowed to play with these guys?"

It was kinda one of the last shows they did. Their official last shows were in April 2002 in Seattle and then Olympia for the very final one. I was on a road trip so I missed these.

However, I caught the final Yo Yo A Go Go in late summer 2001 where Unwound ended the entire shebang and that was great. Very different crowd. Mostly friends and family. All four members (Brandt Sandeno was part of the live group at that point) wore matching suits each a different pastel color, a la Partridge family. Brandt took over drums and they did "Rising Blood" as an encore while Sara stood up and just whacked random cymbals circulating the drum set around Brandt. That was the last Unwound show I saw, and I'm really glad this was the one.

Favorite album: Challenge For A Civilized Society
Next favorite: New Plastic Ideas

Unwound never put out a bad record or single. I'm not so much on the Leaves tip as much as I used to, although I think it's a very fitting swan song, and the live versions of these songs were tops. If they had released a Live Leaves release, that would have been so excellent. Ah well.

i saw them at the fireside in '98, a family member is in unwound and my dad sent me leaves turn inside you but still, a little shamefully, i haven't really listened to anything by them other than super casually. i know i would like them, maybe REALLY like them, but i just haven't got to it yet! where should i start?

I like the Future of What a lot with all those crazy optigan things on there, or whatever that is.

I think my old band played with them once.

maybe for a starter, since you already have Leaves Turn Inside You, listen to Demons Sing Love Songs (the track from that record) and then you let the record flow.
