To repeat previous entries, The Argument by Fugazi and Over and Out by Tar were definitely the way to go out.

Archers of Loaf - White Trash Heroes

I know feelings on this album are split on the PRF, but i think it's an incredible record, and right after they put it out, they were doing interviews saying "yeah, we're breaking up. We don't ever want to start to suck, and we feel like if we keep going we might." Not that i agreed, because i didn't, but there you go.

My own entry here has to be 'Crash' by GI. It isn't quite as good as 'You', the preceding album, but that's part of why it's a great sendoff album. It's the sound of a band stepping down after having reached their pinnacle.
