The once or twice I did this in Reaper it was pretty easy. Maybe I got lucky with where I punched and there weren't noticeable artifacts from cymbal sustain? Or the crossfade was optimal? Or I didn't care?!

But it seems like that crossfade feature is the difference between drum punches working or not. Of course, there are still likely "better" and "worse" spots in most songs to attempt this.

So it sounds like 3-4 days if we include mixing? There is a lot great info in this thread but it sounds like that is the consensus.
