I can understand a grown adult not being into comedy song parody but for kids, it is the best. My sister and I used to jam out Al all the time when we were kids and it was a blast. Nostalgia, maybe. As I grew older I sort of dismissed him and was sort of irritated by the idea of what he did, but when I was in my mid twenties, a friend and I got drunk and went on a youtube fest of his videos and we had a blast. It wasn't nostalgia, we generally just had a great time cracking up at stupid jokes. Some of his songs are legit funny and his execution is perfect. Dare to be Stupid is a perfect Devo song that Devo never did. Mr. Frump and his Iron Lung is fantastic. Someone has to live in this space musically and I can't imagine anyone doing a better job of it.

I like a good, comforting dose of pablum from my childhood now and then. It's important not to make a big deal of it, but that goes for any lonely nonsense that keeps you removed from the rest of humanity. This applies to intellectual and niche interests in general. I say this on an indie rock and record collector forum!

Your post was so succinct and well-put that I wasn't sure if you were quoting something, so I did a quick search and found this. Apparently it really was considered a mental illness.
Interesting. I had no idea. I suppose the Portuguese disagree and that's why Saudade is still celebrated?

Also, thanks. I used to play around with the aphorism as a literary form. Now and again a decent one is wrung out.
