It;s not bad when it started. You had a nice sampler and some synths. I still use it a lot. When people started using midi plugins to make generative music I kind of tuned out ( I have done it), The intergration with MAX/Msp is great. I can make a vector synth and manipulate it. It's not a bad program for creating sounds and tracks.
Latencey with out board gear is a huge issue.
And Robert Henke was just her e at our university giving some talks and he was really lovely. Like Reaper people, Ableton people are nice. (Protools people are not nice.)

Is anyone using Ableton like an instrument inside of a more streamlined DAW like Luna? It's fun to use its instruments and process sound in Live, but I can't get with everything else about it. Probably seems silly for those who like the sequencing/arranging capabilities of Live, but Live's workflow is a deal-breaker for me. I really like UA Luna's linear simplicity. I'm aware that I'm probably in the minority.
