This was my third time to see him perform solo, and it paled in comparison to the other two. He seemed to have a tough time getting his bearings. He did a lot of talking about his childhood, and was mostly improvising. He seemed to be in good spirits, but he was also very distracted. I left the show underwhelmed.
I saw Frank Hurricane play last night. It was everything that the Dan Higgs show wasn’t. He played on a back porch in South Austin beneath a full moon, and he had the audience clinging to his every word. Such a fantastic songwriter and storyteller. An American treasure to the nth degree.
