It's brutal out there in tech.
I'm usually one of the best in my team wherever I work. The market's picking up, but a mix of fumbling interviews (found out I'm probably autistic, fwiw) and work gaps mean I'm not even getting interviews for stuff I know I'd completely crush.
Time to put the nose to the grindstone.
Hang in there, Andy, and best of luck.

Somehow LinkedIn is even MORE depressing than the other depressing social media sites. And that's saying something...
A few years ago, I'm pretty sure I got caught up in some sort of job-site scam that ended up with me doing a zoom interview with some older dude in India. He quizzed me on some really rudimentary programming stuff but was very disappointed that, at the ripe old age of 47, I wasn't "furiously climbing my way to the top of the chain". At one point, he asked me "What is wrong with you?"
I was kinda dumbfounded by the whole exchange but yeah, fuck this. All of it.

I had my first "pre-screen" interview with a place today (after submitting a CV and taking an assessment). I didn't know what that meant, but essentially it was a 10 minute filmed interview to determine if I would be moving on to their normal in house recruiter. An interview for an interview.. that's where we're at. This is hardly some elite company or job either..
I think I'm just gonna start robbing banks soon.

Posting here because I think I reached the end of working in "music". For the last three years I got to do a good amount of music editing for TV, but Hollywood or whatever is on a downswing and there are fewer of these jobs available. I was also never able to get into the union, which is another barrier for getting jobs. I've done a lot of other music related work, like scoring short movies, or mixing/engineering, mockups, whatever and sometimes that stuff added up to an ok wage, but mostly not. I still absolutely love recording and mixing and I plan on doing that at whatever capacity I can, so if you or a loved one looking for someone to record or mix your band, DM me, etc.
Anyway, seems like it's time for me to get a normal job, except I'm not sure what I'm suitable for at this point. I can code (gotta brush up on those skills), and I've worked in tech before, but reading here and talking to a friend it seems like right now is a bad time to try and get into tech/software. I thought about teaching music/guitar/piano, but those jobs seem to be scarce and erratic like other music jobs. Would love to hear people's ideas and if anyone got any leads. This shit sucks and I feel for anyone here who is on the job hunt!

I think about this possibility more than I should because the only thing that sucks more than finding a job is finding out just how little you are valued/how shitty the salary is.

I'm finishing a PhD and there ain't no fucking jobs. I guess I'll be teaching high school or something? It would be nice to know how I'll be paying bills in a couple of months.
Solidarity to everyone going through rough times.

Seems like CanFisco is dead set on turning fishmongering into indentured servitude. There's hatchery work, rewarding to be on the that side I suppose but the pay is for students, I swear.
