Come on, man, grey uniforms = endorsement of the slave trade - I'm waiting for it over here.

gray uniforms = no sense of humor, clearly
I need some help with seeing how your funny, it's true. Make it plain for me - I'm a little slow. Like Strom Thurmond slow, Jesse Helms slow.

Jacket Required, or whathaveyou. Who started this shit? I remember seeing some of this chumpery as far back as the mid-70s...Cleveland, I'm thinking...

Wanna make a bet?

What are we betting? That the pullover didn't come around until 1979 at the earliest? Coulda sworn I saw an Indians pullover from circa 1975...damn you I don't have time to look this up...White Sox coulda been around that time too with the Eurostyle lettering on the pullover...

Yeah, I suppose I didn't abide by the distinction between pullovers and BP jerseys, so you're probably right on that count. It was just something I saw in some ASG article on ESPN.

1979: For reasons that have never been explained, Pete Rose plays the All-Star Game in his Phillies batting practice jersey. With BP jerseys still unknown to most baseball fans at the time (only seven teams are using them), Rose's move gives the solid-colored shirts their first prime-time exposure and sparks a wave of interest, which results in most teams introducing their own BP designs and solid-colored alternate jerseys over the next few seasons.

Also: Pillbox caps.

My grandfather pitched for the A's for two seasons in the early 30s. His uniform was pretty spiffy.

But they were still in Philadelphia. Must've been the move to the Left Coast that fucked them up.
