Thanks, I’ll try to insert silence. I tried to put the plug-in on a new track and it wasn’t intuitive.
By the way, are yall using any control surfaces with Reaper?
I’ve found a million uses for the Motown echo, Helios and API strips but don’t enjoy fooling around with a mouse when I’m doing audio work. I am literally hovering just above 0 on the mix knob of the echo chamber and would like a better option for when I’m in my mix listening position. Same with fader moves for the other stuff.
I guess I could just send a 100% wet out to a fader on my Midas mixer but I only have 16 outs and for the tiny amount I use that doesn’t seem appropriate.

No way am I automating a knob turn and it shouldn’t be this hard.
This is a quirk of reaper. FXs will only process as long as the audio segment is there. I think it's that way to save processing power.
You can use a send and put the delay a separate track. Or you can insert silence [Insert>Empty item] after your hi hat and drag it as long as you need to keep the effect active.
This or use the delay on a separate like a standard FX send/return. Automate the send on the item track. That's how I would do it probably. I have tried several control surfaces on DAWs and always go back to using the mouse. At the end of the day, it just isn't really worth it to me to have knobs and mapping everything sucks. DAWs are designed with the Mouse in mind as a main controller and are pretty god at it. I'd like a big single good feeling knob and a single fader that would instantly control whatever I clicked on. Actually if I just had a big encoder that I could assign to be the mouse scroll wheel that would work great in Reaper. I do use a StreamDeck on occasion though.

I tried a few and were disappointing. The Icon Nano, just felt abandoned and wasn't consistent. Behringer makes a really good one, but if you're on a Mac or Linux, good luck making it useful. They only provide their software for Windows. Its baffling.
I gave up on looking, but I got a bug in my brain to look around again. I might try a Presonus Faderport. I really just want a transport, but having a contextual fader would be super useful.

I’m using a Faderport V2 and am really happy with it. Doesn’t take up much space. Mostly use the transport and rec buttons. I have assigned the section button to track group selection which allows me to select a group of tracks I want to render.

I don't use Reaper (Logic for me) and haven't used a controller consistently since my old Tascam FW-1884 stopped playing with newer laptops some years ago, but I've had my eyes on the new Novation Launch Control XL 3 and might pick it up at some point. Maybe worth checking out.

I have a Xencelabs Quick Keys that I've used to record drums and stuff when I don't want ot be locked to the keyboard.
It's wireless, programmable. you get 4 banks of 8 buttons with scribble strips, and a jog wheel that you can program 4 different functions with. It's ok. like a TV remote.
I programmed basic transport ctrl, marker in, Rec, Del, track select and arm... a few other things on there. like zoom in/out. Not bad if you need to get away from your desk.

If you put it in pure Midi CC mode can't you just hard map it no matter what OS? That is how I used one of their controllers as a Instant Replay controller for VMix once.
I hate mapping Midi controllers.

A control surface for EQ would be pretty nice. Maybe like low pass, high pass and 2 or 3 parametric points?

Softube Console Controller is basically a whole channel strip. Works good with Softube SSL plugin, but would be a nightmare to individually map to every eq plugin you have. If you are into Eco systems, it isn't a bad controller.

That looks pricey and nice and yeah, more locked in to ssl than I want.
Seems like something that could be DIYed with an arduino and some rotary controllers in a project box and I think Adafruit even has a tutorial but it’s more than I can take on now.
