I had an A string pop at practice. I quickly grabbed a new one leaving the rest for time and because I wanted to see what would happen.

The original set had to be close to a year old. I'd played shows in summer on it. Just plucking the A and its neighboring strings with a clean tone I could scrunch my eyes and hear ever so faint a brightness but I wasn't even sure of it. The chooches in my rhythm section said they couldn't tell.

Not fully conclusive but I'm string agnostic. I would not say this about acoustic guitars, that's a different kettle of fish.

Haha when you put it in All Caps Like That I see your point!

Hey. I'm new here. Just looking to escape the usual social media nonsense for awhile (forever?).

I guess my gear confession is I totally like old people gear when it comes to amps and guitars. Like, borderline blues lawyer shit sometimes (reissue Gibsons and such).

But at least I try to do something "different" with it.

Totally gigged a Deluxe Reverb this weekend.

I have a coworker who went to see the band 'Justice', and has now been looking to buy a Moog Voyager, having never touched a synthesizer before. She has an expensive guitar in the office that she's never played, so I made her feel bad for wanting a $3000 synthesizer when she hasn't even tried a $300 one (which I have sitting right here.)
I really don't have any high ground because I have all kinds of expensive shit that sits around being played once or twice a year - and a Moog will keep it's value. No real harm to her if she has the money. So what business do I have judging someone else's gear interest?

That's the confession - I am a hypocrite.

I have no interest in amp modelers. I'm glad people find them useful, but I don't want to run a plugin from a computer on my pedalboard. Seems like it's a rabbit hole you can waste way too much time in. Every time that thread gets bumped here, I die a little bit inside. TEDIOUS

I'm an EE by training, specializing in analog design and signal processing, so I recognize that I have a real and distinct bias. But man, fuck software.

Nothing wrong with that bias. I'll just make sure to think of you dying a little inside with that thread. 😊

I don't care about all the amp options in a modeler. I usually pick one amp I like and stick with it. I don't really like the massive options, another reason I don't like neural models. I like them because I dislike hauling amps around and the sound is just as good, even if a little different. It's like the difference between solid state, tube and class D. I mostly use them at home in my studio. Using a cabinet is kinda secondary for me these days.

Big big same. It’s gotten a little ridiculous

edit: I mean modeling gear, don’t care about the thread

I love vintage amps. I've owned a ton in my life. I've gotten rid of all of them. Software and pedals are what work for me now. No regrets. It's just gear. You like what you like. What's more interesting is with what you do with it.
