It's pretty much an accepted fact to me that people are often unconsciously racist in about 100 different ways. It's just a reality of the world we live in. Racism isn't a concrete thing that can be easily attributed to people and eradicated. Neither does sexism, or homophobia, or whatever else.

I've been to plenty of forums where otherwise well-meaning intelligent people have made slightly sexist or homophobic statements. Or seen semi-disparaging remarks about things like transgendered people made, which hits a little closer to home because I have a friend who is and they've dealt with lots of shit because of it. It's obviously sensitive, but people who are directly impacted with the "ism"s obviously have to see that kind of thing every day.

You can be complicit to something on the surface but still have lingering feelings about it. It doesn't make you a horrible person, as long as you acknowledge it and aren't an asshole about it. It's something that happens to a lot of people, and unfortunately something that can be pretty hard to change. I attribute it to ignorance and cultural indoctrination over anything else. Keeping an open dialogue about it is at least a start, as long as people aren't trying to turn things into a witch hunt.

Mandroid's comments seem pretty harmless to me, though. Everybody occasionally says that kind of shit when they're angry. Don't get too heavy on your white guilt trip to where you stop seeing all the shades of gray of an issue.
