AMP CHAT!!!
I've been a bit amp obsessed recently, primarily because I'm a bit lazy and don't have much else to focus on, gear wise. I have my awesome, modded Traynor for my loud rock band, but I'm precious and don't want to leave it at my band's practice space. Simultaneously, it's heavy and full size, so carrying it around for a short band practice bothers me. So, because the gear of my hobbies are my grown up toys, I just want to play around with stuff and find something good enough that I can leave at the space, or easily tote around.

What I have tried:
  • HX Stomp (amp models that I made) into a class D bass head. Surprisingly good, but I had to give the head back.
  • Line 6 DT25 combo with extension cab. This is a 2 EL84 combo that has modeled preamps and a tube power amp. I run it in Class AB fixed bias and there's not enough umph. It's supposed to be 25 watts, but I don't know.
What I'm curious about:
  • Orange Dual Baby. Solid state. Class AB. 8 lbs. Could be fun, and it could be a power amp for the modeler as well as a full amp in its own right. I wish that I could try before I buy.
  • Some good power amp, preferably stereo, that is light and small and can fit in my cable case. Then I just use the Helix.
  • The Balls G-50 that Neal is selling. I'd love to support a PRF er and also play a Balls, but it's a bit above my pay grade for a practice space amp and probably isn't any lighter if I want to tote it around.
  • Some old, solid state thing for cheap; Bandit, Bandit Transtube, Randall RG80, etc. I know it won't be amazing, but it could be fun and indestructible.
Feel free to chat, add your thoughts, or just ignore my banter.

For the 15" you want the 3015 non-LF version. For 12s it's a little tricky, as they have a 3012LF and a 3012HO. Pretty sure you want the HO and not the LF there. The LF being meant more for subs might explain that long port you mention.
LFs = no go for instruments

I like the 3015.
I do still prefer an EVM-15L but not by enough to worry about it--I can dial in the low end on the Kappalites, which comes "for free" with the EV.
I don't really care about weight so much, but it is indeed noticeable.
For sure. More modern designed speakers intended to be used for PA subwoofers in pro audio apps are awful for bass guitar. in olden times, doesn't seem like there was as much specializing or choices and you'd end up w/ a lot of larger diameter speakers doing double duty in both bass guitar cabs and PA applications. For instance the EVM-18B was used in subs but is a surprisingly great bass guitar speaker. I tried using some homebrew subwoofer cabs as bass speakers a few times and it was always awful.

Best anecdote I have for this was when I picked up the Sunn Beta Bass I have now. It was originally a 15" combo but someone hacked it to shit and shoved an 18" JBL subwoofer speaker in it. It was done so badly with actual visible gaps between the speaker and the baffle & the folks at Music Go Round knocked $100 off for it. The speaker itself sounded terrible, not at all like you expect a beta bass. It was so mangled I literally sawed the head itself off, screwed feet on it and scrapped the cab part. Paired with a decent cab, the head sounds awesome.

Been using the 3015LF for synthesizer and it's great for that instrument, I know I know

Anyone else had that?
The fact that both of them are doing it is strange. I would expect that if a component failed, it would only happen to one of them. I wonder if something is coupling into your AC power and impacting both of them. I had an issue months ago where I kept getting this whining noise when using a DI, and I started turning off breakers in my panel one at a time until it suddenly went away when I got to the garage. Turns out it was a noisy power supply in my tool battery charger coupling onto the AC line and onto the adjacent breaker, which was powering everything in my studio.

Hm, thanks Nate. I found a pair of powered desktop speakers in another room that I swapped into my normal monitors' place, using the same power conditioner / audio inputs, and no whine. But, could be a combo of noise in the line + component failure inside. Going to try a neighbor's power.

Probably belongs in the reaper thread, but here's the deal. I have a laptop from 2021. CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5625U with Radeon Graphics 6 Cores. 24 gb RAM. I just wiped it clean because it's been buggy for a little while.

Since the wipe, the only things I've installed on it are reaper, PlexAmp, VST's, controller for the processor and the software for the Audio interface.

During playback of anything - plex, youtube, reaper files, there is a digital pop like an emission of noise or a burst of compressed bits or crushed bits every 10 seconds or so - sometimes really noticeable, sometimes only kinda audible but still there and very annoying.

I futzed around on reddit and the like, and I went through all of the sample rates and block / buffer sizes with no improvement. Turned off and uninstalled the OG audio drivers to make sure they weren't interfering. Killed the bluetooth adapter....nothing made the problem change at all. Same symptoms across the board.

I have a media server that I bought new and somewhat cheap, but it's not even a year old. When I move the exact same setup to that machine, I have no problems, no glitches, and I can run multiple audio sources simultaneously without a single hiccup. That rules out cabling and the interface SO....

Tshooing 101 says it's my laptop hardware, and I'm inclined to think it's the processor, as the desktop has an intel i7 4790 that's obv faster.

Anyone have ideas outside of using my server for recording or getting a newer laptop?

Any time I hear about clicks and pops in digital set ups, and admittedly this may be more "old school" of me, but I usually look at word clock issues. Those usually only happen when there's multiple digital devices hooked up together, but have seen just two devices (computer & interface) get confused about who was the driver clock and who was the secondary.

What all do you have set up?
