Patchbay trs’s - how particular are you about the brand being used?

I don’t mind getting canare for 20 ft mic cables or whatever - if you have Redco build them then the good stuff costs less than the crap at Guitar Center. It is insane how expensive that stuff is.

But the little short TRSs patch cables are really going to cost $, if only for all the 1/4 jacks. But I don’t mind paying more just to avoid weird troubleshooting issues that seem to follow shitty cables.

What are the chances I would be fucking myself with something like this? I can’t tell you how many cheap cables I’ve had to literally throw away because the XLR didn’t fit anything else. Compared to Redco, Seismic Audio isn’t much of a deal either.

So anyways, not corksniffing, just not looking forward to doing the stupid cable dance OR spending another damn dollar with this patchbay.

I'm not picky. I have a ton of the Hosa stuff, some Seismic stuff, Generic Stuff, and a bunch of stuff I built my self with pretty Generic TRS ends and a bunch of random Mic cable I have lying around. Almost none of it has ever failed, but I pull them out by the plug and not by the cable like a savage. Cables last forever if you aren't a monster. I've never noticed a sound quality difference with any of it.

PA question!

We (the band in my link below) often play libraries and museums and public spaces where we bring a PA and do our own sound. Currently our setup is 6 basic dynamic vocal mics, 7 small condenser mics (like the little mcs that go in saxophones or whatnot, but clamped onto typewriters, and 3 line ins for some homemade power electronic ish sources. We have 2 small JBL EONs (10" drivers and these sound surprisingly clear and loud) on stands for mains. This is fine for us; we're not crushingly loud and it's good for small theaters or large function rooms.

All that said, the gist here is we do have a lot of active mic channels onstage, so we have to be careful about feedback and overall volume. We'd like to add 2 floor monitors to the setup, mainly for vocals (and not so much for our bassier elements). Floor monitors work fine for us in situations where we are using a venue's PA or whatnot, and we keep the volume moderate. What are some nice options out there these days? I'd love to go with 2-way 8" units for portability. On the low end or course there's Behringer, and the upper end of what we could get would be the QSC CB10 (CP10?). I'd be into other suggestions too.

Thank you, PRF!

I'm doing something that I fear might be damaging my tube amplifier, my preamps or both. I have a drip-edge 50w Bassman head that I run into a Bugera PS1 attenuator. I bridge the bass and normal channels and turn them both up to 10. I go out of the amp into the 4 ohm input in the attenuator. I then run out of the line level output into my interface. Even with both the attenuator control and the separate line volume control and the preamp turned to zero, I can still hear signal in my studio speakers. Nothing is hot or smoking but it seems weird that I can hear sound when I supposedly shouldn't be. I can even hear sound emanating from the attenuator itself. There isn't a manual for this device so I don't really know how any of it works. I will say I've been doing this off and on for years without incident so mostly just anxious that my luck will run out.

What you’re doing is technically not wrong - My guess is somehow some device (the attenuator being bugera would be my suspect) has some level of impedance to ground that isn’t able to sink the full output of your amp.
(Or is grounding through a dirty ground in your amp given the attenuator likely doesn’t have its own ground) - The attenuator shouldn’t have any noise generating device but if it’s causing a vibration relative to signal it can sound like what you’re playing if the device vibrating is insecure enough to act like a speaker (not out of the question).

Do you have a lower power amp, or other amp in general to try doing the same thing?

I think I would actually like them for line level processors if they were priced right. Just for woolying up stuff or making things sound like they smoke.

I understand they have a lot of baggage but that was before my time recording.
I haven't used the plugin but I used to have one of the 610/LA2A racks and I didn't like it much at all. Weirdly I just don't ger along with LA2A's and the 610 side sounded pretty harsh and hollow to me.
