Re: Little Details from Your Day
2828Last night, we were having a great dinner and really enjoying each other as a family. I was heading out to band practice, when my wife received the news that a close-family friend passed away after some health issues. After making sure she was OK and taking care of some things to take the load off for her with the kids, I left for band practice. When I got home, a shitstorm had erupted. Apparently, my father-in-law who's a moron and a jackass and a dumbshit thought he could get into heaven easier by inviting a homeless man he met in a gym locker room to live with him and my mother-in-law, without asking anyone anything. Their house is like Grand Central Station for their 7 daughters and all their grandkids and great grandkids. My wife was going to stay the night for the funeral over the weekend and bring the kids. Her mom, too embarrassed to admit that her husband is a total moron and a jackass and a dumbshit, didn't tell my wife, who was going to bring our two young daughters and herself over to their house, where this homeless man who is 28, is definitely lying about his last name, has a DUI, and is an admitted drug addict, has been living for over a month while mooching off her parents. It wasn't until she called one of her sister's plan a pool party over the weekend that her sister told her about their parents' new "roommate." This has been going on for about a month, and my moronic, jackass, dumbshit father-in-law invited this guy to stay with him while my mother-in-law was visiting us, so she didn't even get a say in it.
One of my sister-in-laws, who is a social worker, is going over there tonight to ask the guy to leave and offer some options for social service. My wife has had it with her father. She wants him out of her life forever. Everyone wants her mom to divorce him (for a whole huge list of reasons), but she's too afraid. Last time we talked to her about it, she said she was just waiting for him to die because it would be easier.
This all happened right after my wife and I wrapped up a therapy session, where we talked about how annoying our parents are and how it stresses us out. Her dad is just on a whole other plane of existence in that area. Every other parent is just a normal level of insane grandparent.

My mom's brother lived with their parents until he joined the Navy, came home after a medical discharge about a year later, and then lived in their house until he got married in his 30s. My siblings and I would individually spend two weeks every summer at their place, and I was exposed to some sketchy-as-fuck characters that my uncle would invite to live there until they "got back on their feet." I remember being offered what I now understand to be speed by one of those people when I was about 12. One of the weirdest things about it was that my grandfather had been at Guadalcanal with the Marines, and was only in his early 50s when my uncle moved back in, but didn't put his foot down at all, as far as I could tell.
