Wait, why do we hate the Sentra again?
Hey, if you're using your SUV [which, in the case of the 4Runner is a pretty apt descriptor, as it's pretty utilitarian and rather sporty!], then good on you. If you bought the not-so-utilitarian Excursion as a commuter vehicle, I do assume you're sort of a selfish prick. You are unconcerned with the safety of those around you. You are unconcerned about our unhealthy dependence on oil. I might be wrong about you, but I'll take my chances.
A minivan is a safer vehicle--both for its occupants and those in other cars, very often has much better gas mileage, and has a better ride. It offers more cargo space than most SUVs, the seats of which rarely "Stow 'n' Go." It's not going to go through 8" of snow very well [having driven a Caravan in the mountains of NC, I know this to be true], but neither are the H2s which never see that snow. And nothing helps you on ice, which is what we generally see around here.
If you're using your vehicle responsibly, I have no beef with you. But to ask me to assume that the people I see driving their chrome-encrusted Navigators as though they were sports cars are doing the same is just dumb.
Yes to hybrid SUVs. But more yes to a hybrid hatchback. Why no hatchbacks, America? Why do you hate them so?
I take my drums to the club in my Sentra. It's just a 22" kick, though. And it goes into the backseat through the front door. [/quote]

Well the one that I had back in the 80's/early 90's that didn't fit in any passenger car's trunk and didn't fit in the Sentra's back seat was a Kramer Focus 8000 bass in the stock HSC that it came in. The bass I have now is a Lado Falcon with an ATA case made by Clydesdale back in the mid 70's.

My kick drum didn't fit anywhere in my old bass player's Volvo, not in the trunk, not in the front seat, not in the back seat. Trunk with a tie to hold the trunk partially closed. That's a bullshit way to move around a kick drum.

So I will measure it tomorrow. We will see, maybe it would fit in your car. Maybe it will! Somebody measure their Honda Civic, their Honda Accord, their Nissan Sentra, etc!

Am I the only guy that's run into problems with fitting a bass case into the trunk of a compact car? Hey, maybe I am!

Something to think about with regard to the size of a bass... the scale is part of it. The amount of body behind the end of the bridge is probably the biggest part. And shape of the headstock.

If you think about it, a TB2000 is probably just about the shortest long-scale bass you're ever going to see, isn't it? Virtually no headstock since it's 2-to-a-side... and the body behind the bridge is next to nothing.

Yeah?

I recommend the 1986-92 Isuzu Trooper or Trooper II.

I currently own a 1988 model with 124000 miles that gets 24 mpg city. With the seats folded down I can fit an Ampeg 8x10, a five piece set with hardware, a 4x12, amp heads, and the passenger seat is free.

My previous Trooper was a 1986 that had to be junked at 225000 miles. It had the original clutch until its untimely passing. I would have likely put another 100000 miles on the vehicle if I hadn't underestimated the corrosive power of the blue de-icer shit the Colorado DOT uses so Texans wouldn't end up in the reservoir while on their ski vacation.

If you get a wild hair up your ass to drive halfway into Libya, the Trooper can accomodate you and just need regular fluid changes at the end of the trip. More than can be said for the Dodges, Chevys, and Toyotas in this article.

I paid $1000 for the Trooper I am driving now.

The only downside of these fine vehicles is that they will disintegrate in a crash. The crash safety ratings are total dogshit. I am comfotable with this, but I can understand why someone else wouldn't be.

I think I will drive 1986-1992 Troopers until I am dead. Perhaps in a crash. I am comfortable with this.

Well that answers that then. If your wedge-in-ATA-case fits, I'm sure my bass would fit as well.

Have you ever tried to fit the wedge in an Accord, Civic, or Sentra? Did it work?

Can you fit an SVT410 in your car? 810 obviously not, but what about the 410? I would expect it's too deep, right?

I'm just curious because I'm planning on selling my 4runner and asking you if I can be in a band with you.

Let's go back a step: Why do we assume a need to move around equipment in the first place?

If we all just drop our silly needs to "express ourselves" and share our rock, then we can reduce our respective carbon footprints by not making all of these wasteful trips to practices and rock shows.

All these talk of SUV is now gone. To me, is like, "What talk?"

This is to make me smile so much for already a minute now. I am to like to buy you berr sometime if ever we are at same rock show. Salut, guy! Well played!

scott, I totally wasnt gonna get in on this one again, but since you mentioned it, I can fit all of that in my 1991 Civic hatchback. I know I can because I have. All of it.

I can move an SVT with it, head and 810 cab. I can move my Marshalls and 4X12 and three guitar cases and plenty of other crap at the same time. A 24X8 Soundcraft mixer. Your dopey kick drum. No sweat. I have moved all of these things with it (well, not your kick drum, per se, but a kick drum along with toms, snare, and hardware), getting 28-36 mpg the whole time.

My old Ford Escort hatchback was almost as good with the cargo-hauling, but lacked some of the space because the back window had a lower angle.

I dont think I could move an armoire though. You got me there.

That said, I dont care if you wanna drive an SUV. Go ahead. I wont spit on you or put stickers on your bumper or anything. I attach no moral outrage to your choice.

Just dont act like it's the only option for the massive cargo you have to haul. It's totally not.

And just think, you could be stylin and profilin like this Phish phan, showing off his Honda's massive cargo hold:
