colombian necktie - big black
rotten to the core - rudimentary peni
lost cause - cosmic psychos
spread it around - the bags
???? - the neighborhoods (we played it once, for a neighborhoods tribute show)
???? - the voodoo dolls

i think that's it.

mostly other people's songs were way too hard to figure out and/or play correctly. So we stuck to simple ones.

hubcap covered joy division's 'no love lost'.

dianogah has covered (live) 'bad houses' by big black and 'glass house failure' by 18th dye.

in practice, we've made serious attempts to work up:

'feel the wind howl' by leo kottke
'junebug' by the melvins
'steppin out' by joe jackson
'agostino' by shellac

and some eurythmics song.

j_harvey's old band, grover, did some GREAT covers, back in the day.

this is a good time for me to direct you to my favorite cover band, hamburg's boy division

edit: in going to see what new songs they have on their site, i see that they've posted a film (with terrible sound) from a party on a boat on the elbe river where i saw them back in september. you can see [ex-hurl, ex taking pictures] mat daly in the light blue shirt down front.

My old band did the following:
~Loudmouth - Ramones (A favorite)
~Green Hell - Misfits (Another favorite)
~Only Going to Die - Bad Religion (One more favorite)
~Paint it Black - Rolling Stones (Which we always tended to fuck up in some capacity, the majority of that capacity being that we were not the Rolling Stones.)
~Boots - Nancy Sinatra (Just to say we did it)
~Cocaine Blues - Johnny Cash (Which I was renown for fucking up the strumming on, trying to play all country like at light speed and spit out all the lyrics at the same time.)
~New Year's Day - U2 (One of the few songs I like by them)
~Purple Pills - D12 (As a goof; bassist did the rapping; we never got through the whole thing because we were always laughing so hard. Nobody in the audience ever got the joke... Imagine a sea of mohawked youth raising one pierced eyebrow and sneering a "What the fuck?" look at us.)
~Can't Get You Out of my Head - Kylie Minogue (I know this one never got to the stage; plenty of groans from my bandmates when I'd start playing "our" version at practice.)
~Territorial Pissings - Nirvana (For the express purpose of pissing people off. It generally worked.)

My current band doesn't cover anything, but we do warm up at practice by properly butchering AC/DC's "Whole Lotta Rosie", Aerosmith's "Mama Kin", Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" (which is always good for a goof), and Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog".
This is going to get worse before it gets any better.
