If you have firefox and quicktime (the free version of the independent player for windows that Arson linked) installed, it should just be a plugin install.

Otherwise, fuck all this step by step crap. Worst comes to worse, go to your control panel, uninstall firefox and whatever quicktime crap you have and just do a clean install of both and then try the video(s). You'll probably get prompted for the automatic plugin install. Shouldn't take you five minutes overall.

Nina's solution should also work as far as I can tell - her link is just software that gives you the quicktime codecs without having to actually install the quicktime player.

Edit: apparently quicktime now installs the plugin automatically so just installing the player (or the alternative) should do the trick.

You do have a choice with that Itunes crap - Arson showed it above.

Also, fuck Itunes.

But unless you use foxmarks or something, you lose all your bookmarks, settings etc. It's just a hassle to go this route.

Nina's link also installs media player classic. (It's an option, set as default when you install) This is the nice feature.

Steve, when you install it and set the configurations (asks you if you want to configure settings right after you install) make sure you set it to automatically begin playing streaming files. I think it's the third or fourth tab.
I just uninstalled and re-installed it to make sure that it worked on T&G's site for what you want to watch. I worked fine for me. Let me know if you have any problems.

Have you tried saving the video file? I don't bother installing QuickTime plug-in for Firefox. The media window is too small anyway. Plus, you can store it for later watching. You can do this since .mov is not some type of non-stored streaming media file such as .asx or .rm files.

To save a video file, open the T&G video window where you're asked the missing plug-in question in Firefox, right click (or whatever click used to bring the menu), and choose "View Page Info". Choose the Media tab in the "Page Info" window and find the video's address. For example, the Didjits video looks something like this:

../video/3768.mov

Get that file name and add it to this after address: http://www.tgrec.com/video/. Example for the Didjits video:

http://www.tgrec.com/video/3768.mov (in this link, you can right click-> "Save Link As" to save the video file)

It should either display the video in your browser or it will ask you to save the file. You might be able to watch it in your browser if problem is with the T&G media page. If it asks you to save, then somehow QuickTime isn't properly installing the Firefox plug-in. I prefer saving the video file since you can watch it "full-screen." Also make sure QuickTime (standalone; not under Firefox) is working properly. Hope this helps.

Between you and I, I was thinking something along those lines as well, but decided to keep my mouth shut and just be helpful.

I have a Mac and have had a trouble playing some videos from the internet. I downloaded the program or plug-in "Flip4Mac" and it helped a great deal. I was getting a "(no picture)" black screen when I tried to play videos. I still get that now, including on the T&G website, but once the video loads it will play, although there is often a sort of phantom or duplicate empty video box simultaneously.

I guess Flip4Mac is a way for Windows media stuff to play on Apple doohickies.

I didn't pay- the website will try to draw your attention to the option of premium services or whatever they are but just click on download.

http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm

If that doesn't help, if you haven't already, try reading Cormac McCarthy's most recent novel The Road.

It's working with the Itunes on there. I don't know if I can get rid of Itunes though.

I think they have shared .dll's or some kind of shared files. I tried to hand pick the itunes files out and delete them, to no avail.

(Shakes fist in the air) you should have gone for the QT Alt.
Is a much better program and it plays well with the Firefox software.

Oh well, there goes my $5. Damn it.
