yes, we would. language is not fair -- it's fascist. it equates light, whiteness, sight, strength, largeness, tallness/highness, wealth, masculinity, etc. as good and equates darkness, poverty, blindness, smallness, femininity, etc. as bad.

every little phrase is unfair if you look at it, "gypped" or whatever. i think we should draw the line somewhere at what language is too offensive and what is not but where we draw the line is the debate.

It's the connotations associated with the word that makes it hurtful. Also it''s the misrepresentation- if you tell someone what they are, you take away their freedom to define themselves. N-anything-word is a title given by exploiting Europeans.

Anybody who has a problem with this thread needs to take a long look at themselves. Forget the time you let that black man go first in the grocery line, forget your NWA tape from high school and that kinky-haired girl you dated in college. If you can't face the question, there's a contradiction deep in your mind. I think it's crazy that there was just a "Nigger vs Cunt" poll that flew (though I'm glad that N was voted worse than C), but wne I made this and the other Nig thread, I got jumped on by a bunch of people. Like it's okay to speculate about shit white people will never have to really worry about, but all of a sudden a minority starts talking about minority issues and it's so wrong. Basically I was told by some people that there's no need for black board members to have their own space. I know I phrased the intro kind of agressively, but I was pissed by the NvsC poll and other race-oriented threads.

As far as nigger vs nigga, it means the same thing to me. I'd rather hear someone NOT drop the "r" because I think it's fake unless you have that sort of accent. However my poll vote was for option 5.

I am hiding behind nothing. I know my obnoxious nature far outweighs my ethnicity. If people don't like me they can and do say it. If they want to discuss or argue the issue they can and do. But confusing the issue with the person is stupid. Don't bother arguing with me if you hate me, because you're just going to discount what I say based on your opinion of me. You may be right or wrong in your opinion of me, but bad people can make good points and vice versa.

I still think that this is just as valid a poll as 75% of any others here. Anyone who says there's no need for this shit is proving that there IS a need. If you want to sweep the remnants of slavery in America under the carpet, then I will lend you a shovel so you can dig up Eazy-E's dick and get some well-aged AIDS.

My other thread was made with the intent of communicating with other people with similar issues. This is a place for communication, and it will ultimately suffer if the topics are confined to Slint and hot dogs.

Anyway I know I'm doing something right if I'm pissing someone off, so fuck all y'all.

And just to clarify BadComrade, I'm not calling you a racist- I'm calling you an ass.

What I mean is it's pejorative use by slave masters against Africans and their descendants. Any use of that word today only serves as a reminder of their displacement and inhuman treatment.

Of course, this leaves us with the question of censorship, however, maybe the word should be resigned to the history books and only spoken in the classroom.

I see what you're saying. Don't you think the education shold come first, and then the people will want to change the way they speak for themselves? I mean It does get under my skin when very young black kids are yelling nigger at one onother, but it makes sense in the environment. Hopefully if people can think before they speak, the choice of other more useful words will be theirs. I am cringing at the thought of well-meaning, inept teachers trying to tell their black students how to talk though.

Let's face it, some people of all colors just like to say "nigger."

What's strange about this post is that I had to go back and re-read this thread to see what the heck you were talking about... and nowhere could I find anyone jumping on you for creating it. If anything, people were actually on topic. Am I missing something, or are you just having a freak-out?

a fat dude can say to another fat dude "youre a sack of lard" and the other dude will probably not take offense, unless he is significantly larger than the one who said it. someone whos not overweight will probably offend someone whos fat if he calls him a "sack of lard"....

i think only black people should be the ones who use the word. however, i think both males and females should have every right to use the word "bitch"... i believe this, even though i consider myself to be a feminist on many issues; this is where i draw the line. i, as a dude, should have the right to say bitch, in all sorts of circumstances.
