That Jehu cover someone mentioned is just awesome. Seriously. They basically add some extra heaviness to the original, but it rules. I mean, I've loved the original tune for decades, but should've discovered both at the same time I might prefer the cover.

And yes, the heavier they got, the better. Sometimes they nail the slow stuff though (Minerva, Be quiet...)

Stef is a QAnon loon and Chino seems have treated Sergio Vega like shit after years in the band… he was never made a member despite four albums and when COVID hit got his “pay” pulled an referred to as an “expensive” by Chino.

Shit like that grates.
Didn't know any of this and, as much as they rock, as much as they've soundtracked some fifteen / twenty mile bike rides, this really sours anything I'm going to hear out of them. Keeping a guy essentially on "temp" status and then the guitarist being a legit flat-earther and anti-vaxxer?

And they replaced Vega with the bassist from Marilyn Manson. A person would have to be a douche (putting it so very lightly) to join MM and that's the guy they chose. Cripes.

Didn't know bout that flat earth anti vaxx shit. What a moron.

Don't know how bands work internally. From the outside seems logical to consider Vega as a legit member at this point... maybe they don't get along that well and it's cheaper for them to just keep him as a hired guy when they want to record/tour.

At some point Delgado entered as an "official" member methinks, so why not treating Vega the same way?

Dunno.

You could be my kid's godparent and if you talked to me like that, I wouldn't think twice about quitting the band.

A couple of things there...

If you take a little bit closer look at the "Business..." component, the first album Vega played on also lined up with the band moving from Maverick to Reprise.

From what I can recall, Maverick either threatened to fine or fined the band a pretty substantial amount over the gap between White Pony and the self-titled record.

If Maverick was also a stickler about Delgado being a member of the band once he was on two records in a row?

I wouldn't be all that shocked.

Without knowing for certain, I always chalked it up to it being a matter of Reprise just being more hands off as a label.

When I was first introduced to Hum (way too late in my life), it completely changed how I view the Deftones because I liked Hum so much more, yet Deftones was wildly more successful; I felt--still feel, I suppose--that the Deftones owe quite a bit to Hum.

I've read at least one interview with Chino where he bristled at the comparison to Hum then went on to diss Matt Talbott's singing, and I'm thinking to myself, "who the fuck are you to criticize how someone sings?"

They have some pretty good songs, but most of the members sounds like complete assholes.

NC, but recent stuff brings some waffles. They were playing some festivals here, but since Carpenter doesn't believe in flying or something he wasn't playing, Vega was out and IIRC even the drummer was out golfing or something I didn't really feel like paying to see Chino and that one guy with bunch of subs.

They have a place in my heart, I love the first record - especially the laziness of it - and some later ones. There was a gap, I'm not super familiar with some of the newer stuff, but I do like Gore and Ohms.

The way they treated Vega sucks and I miss Chi. He was a huge inspiration for me as bass player.
