cheers. thanks for the detailed description. you've pretty much sold me. gotta think about my pick up configs. you know what i'm looking for, so the jazz bass placement may be nice if you think it adds clarity. although, having said that, my 450b has neck and bridge humbuckers, and i only use the bridge, never the neck - ever. then there's the choice of pickups. single coils or humbuckers. i love the way the beans sound - and the clips of kevin's band. but personally, i've always found single coils too thin.

out of curiosity, what are the pickups in the rd artist...?

and you had the neck modeled after the fender...? what's his bass neck normally like...? since travis bean is kevin's m.o., i'm going to assume that they're contoured similarly.

cheers,

the rd artist had moog designed active pickups with built in compression. apparently they were notorious battery eaters. the rd standard had two single coils like a jazz bass.

i think i asked my neck to be like a rickenbacker bass, and it seems like it is. but i don't remember what all details went into it. it is a super nice neck, my left hand never gets tired on it.

i wanted body contours b/c i hate slab basses.

if i were you i'd get single coils. you tune low so you're gonna need extra bass response in order for those notes to sound right. and i'd go w/ jazz bass locations to keep clarity at a maximum.

and of course there's always the option of getting humbuckers and w/ a coil split switch. rio grande makes a pretty badass double jazz bass pickup.
somebody help me. i can't help myself.

wow, kevin doesn't add body contours...i totally hadn't noticed that. yeah, i'm not a fan of flat instruments either...

a rick neck is rather lovely. i have one, but i'm most likely going to get rid of it as i hate the way it sounds, but yeah, i always loved the neck on it.

split coil humbuckers could be interesting -

Yeah, that and Ago from Uzeda shelving his 40yr-old Strat for an Electrical, at least for touring.

I hope to have Kevin make me a third baritone sometime in the next year or so.

Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.
