Any chance I have of liking this band is destroyed the moment the vocalist opens his mouth.

Also reading frequent MOJO articles about his "genius" makes me biased towards throwing the Gun Club into a furnace.

The Las Vegas Story, Fire of Love, and Death Party are all very much not crap.

I'm not entirely sold on Las Vegas story.

Fire of Love, though... my god what a record. Force of nature shit. I don't care how annoying their fans were, I don't care how godawful their hair was or if they were drag queens or posers or whatever, all that matters is it sounds like they're playing like their lives depend on it.

I remember sitting on a lifeguard stand at dusk somewhere in New Jersey in the 1980s, listening to "Texas Serenade" on a mix tape on a little boombox. Some girl walking by started in with Jeffrey Lee Pierce this, Jeffrey Lee Pierce that, Jeffrey Lee Pierce the other thing. I really didn't know who he was, and somehow that made me a poseur or something. I still like that song a lot, and some of their other songs a little bit, but yeah -- I could have done without that particular fan. I mean, the sun was setting at that point, but what sort of goth girl walks on a beach, anyway?
