UAM - use the instructions in the link, wpa_supplicant is one of the built-in tools, you just need to set it up.
I woulda PM'ed you this, but I just wanted to Clocker Bob the front page with some linux stuff.

44The newest *buntu's are really something special. I've been playing with xubuntu for a few weeks now, and haven't felt the need to go back to windows, yet.
Although I do miss foobar2000.

45I swear I'm cursed with *nix.
Just tried the idiot-proof install of xubuntu. Would not mount my partition or write to the MBR. Fatal failure to install error. I'm typing this from my windows partition. I know nothing's wrong with the MBR, because I've installed other flavors of *nix on it with no problem (other than the usual wireless woes).
Guess I have to wait for Geriatric Giraffe (7.10?) to try again.

46you could try wubi, and then install the xubuntu package.

47Huh, that looks interesting.
My theory on my install issues is that this is an old comp with a cdrom drive that tends to halt on large files, sometime never finishing reading them. I've had trouble copying large .avi files from it before. I think something may have gone wrong there, because the install sat for about 20-25 minutes with no activity except a repetitive spin every 10-15 seconds or so....a sound I've become all too familiar with. And the cd was shit hot when I took it out.
I may try DSL still....50 MB off a cd shouldn't have any problems (knock on wood)
Thanks for posting the link!

48Dude, that repetitive disk spin-up sounds like either a borked drive or a borked disk - does the disk pass a media check/does the iso pass MD5?
If it's the drive, you could alternatively try a network install.

you can count on it!
It's getting to the point where there's only a few apps that aren't available on linux (photoshop, etc.) and possibly just having a separate windows install for that...amazing.
the whole free bob thing is interesting, I guess I'm looking at the presonus fp10, but do you have any other recommendations?

50Offered with the qualification that I've only used FW kit for sketchpad stuff...
I haven't had my hands on an FP10, but if it really is just a firepod by any other name, it'll need it's firmware updated on a windows box/mac first to run reliably, and it'll have really uneven frequency response. I doesn't necessarily sound bad at all, but if you're after transparency, shop elsewhere. I wish Motu would pull finger and put out for-real linux drivers. I've been told that the Terratec Phase 88 runs more reliably under linux using the FFADO/Freebob driver than it runs on windows or macs with the terratec driver, but that wouldn't be too hard. That's 2nd-hand info tho, and I wouldn't go looking for one myself. Possibly it or the FP10 are the pick of an average bunch.
In all honesty, firewire audio on linux is pretty shit.
