Obviously, the bias shines through!

But thanks for this - as someone who still potters around the English countryside on his bicycle listening to 15 year old cassette tapes on his Sony TCS-580V "Stereo Cassette-Corder", for the first time this Christmas my wife and I have considered getting some device or other to download music. I guess your chart may make it marginally less painful.

I think whoever compiled these pros & cons didn't do his or her research thoroughly.........(well, it was YOU who compiled the list, wasn't it...COLONEL KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN !!!!!??????)

CREATIVE ZEN (the 4th player from that stupid list) has a LINE-IN FOR AUDIO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That means we could record music directly from our CD player/hi-fi player....instead of copying the songs from the computer.

DO YOUR RESEARCH CORRECTLY NEXT TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nevertheless I suffice to add...

If the MP3 players sold in your part of the world are indeed 'different' than the MP3 players sold here in Asia, then ours are more superior than yours !!!!!!!!

One reason why iPod is not popular is because they rely too much on stupid iTunes.

We here have LOTS of MP3 players, not to mention the branded ones but the 'pirate' ones as well !!!!!!!!

Kids here do not have to go through a PC to copy their music.
They could record from their CD players (line-in recording), they could record videos from their portable VCD or DVD players...they could even record songs from other MP3 players (transfering or copying files) !!!!

When I was in france a couple years ago they had a nice one that was in all the subway ads. It was as you describe just a memory stick had a couple of buttions on it and a small lcd. It also worked as a memory stick. I think it was from one of the Korean company's. Seemed nice though.

Your needs are different than mine, butI like the ipod myself and also have a iphone. I have a great deal of music and like to organize it to set it up with the database tools. Also I enjoy the random play features for car trips. If you get the adcessory kit it has a am fm radio attachment which is part of the headphone remotecontrol (has the tv video attachment which is nice too). I think this is how they implement the antenna is using the wire to the remote. Radio works fine better than my car radio. As far as the battery goes I have had no problem with my battery on my old ipod and have had it for 5 years, use it with my stereo now.

I bought a 8 Gb. Sansa View for $130 at Best Buy.
It is half the price of the 8 Gb. IPod Nano.
It will not work with Itunes (which I hate.) but all you have to do is drag MP3 files on to it like a it is a drive.
And, you can drag MP3 files off of it like a drive. I don't think you can do this with an IPod. You can watch Sparks videos and porn in it.
You can upgrade the drive space with SD flash memory.

It also had voice recording and FM Radio.

It wins.

Now im on a hunt for a mp3 player too. Two of my coworkers have the Zen, which does look cool, but I can't find it anywhere. Other two coworkers have iPod, one is ok with it, the other doesn't like it.

I can't find the Zen anywhere, so it leaves the Archos and iPod.

I've seen the Archos and it's specs are great, but I don't know, there's something about this big screen that is frightening me. The price is a bit off too, I was looking for something up to 300US $.

The iPod is cheaper than the archos, but again, I hate iTunes, I can deal with the rest.

ironyengine, what's with this link you sent as a reply to what I said about the iPod running only with iTunes. Is it possible to just connect it to the computer and drag and drop the files into it? or it can work with other software? It applies to Macs or to PCs as well?

thanks!
eliya

edit: I'm looking for something with 60gb of storage. I'd do with 30's and I'll be glad for 80(like the iPod) but 60 is just about right.

I've had this cheap little Creative MuVo TX FM for about three years and it's finally giving out on me. Basically, it's a 1gig flash drive, the size of a Zippo, and has FM. It was $70 back then but now they're way cheaper. Yeah, it's chintzy Chinese plastic but it did the job, totally hassle-free on my PC, just drag and drop (even from iTunes). However now it turns off all the time because the USB socket is worn out a bit and doesn't hold steady. the reason it's worn out is I had to always pull the drive out of the socket because just leaving it in drains the battery (1 aaa). This was the major design flaw. Now it's time for a replacement. I saw COBY (generic brand of cheap boomboxes you'd find at Walgreens) has a little 1gig deal that clips on like the nanos. It's the size of a walnut half and it's only $24. If I can get 3 years use out of it, I'll be happy. I've taken the MuVo on many long trips; 1gig is alright. Mainly I use it for jogging.
Thanks for allowing me to share.
