Just watched this on youtube.

Didn´t sound like mellotron to me. And I thnk it sounded live, the whole band seemed to speed up at one point, and there´s a little interlude where the drummer plays these really ugly, almost out of tempo tom hits (an acquired taste, perhaps?).

I think it was live. Just not any good. Now I know my vote.

Well on my TV speakers I couldn't hear the string section. And I've seen many bands hire string sections as window dressing.

But my TV speakers are shitty so I could be wrong.

So they've graduated from producing second-rate jam bands to second-rate afro beat over there?

It is a step up, I will grant them that.

Did any of you guys ever see the show "Rich Girls"? I'm going to guess most of you said no since most of you would never stoop so low (if you don't know what it is here's the wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Girls. There are also some videos of them on youtube).

Vampire Weekend is music for those girls.

There was a point during one of their songs that reminded me of Operation Ivy, for a few seconds, in a way that made me remember Op Ivy fondly. That's how terrible this band is.

It's gone so far as to produce this band, this perfect mess of useless songsmithing maneuvers. No point to their music. Nothing remotely interesting. No edge, no balls, just a series of wimpy, douchebag cliches that are perfectly in line with what's become of popular music in the past few years. They are the Stone Temples Pilot of this crappy genre. It's dying, if not already dead. Therefore, HOORAY!!!!

CRAP.

Interpol is fine with me. And i still adore STP's Tiny Music

Though I'd have to agree, Vampire Weekend = Crap.
