The ol' lady is from Texas and I am from Arkansas.
The storm, although heavy, didn't seem all that bad to us. Just a heavy rain. We have both been through tornado and near tornado storms many times and nothing about last night seemed to fit the bill.
Hell of a lot of busted up trees left behind though.

42I've been through a couple tornados in my life, though none of them caused any severe damage to where I was living.
I remember hiding under the bed several times while waiting for tornados to pass when I was a young child, once in Champaign IL and once in Arlington Heights IL. The one in AH moved our garage over a few inches of it's foundation, but other than that there was no damage. I also remember the bed I was under shaking.
They sounded like freight trains as they passed through.

43the tornado part of the evening was pretty crazy, but the lightning part, around 10:30 or so, was fucking incredible. i have never ever ever ever ever ever ever heard thunder and lightning like that in my life. i was on my back porch watching if for a bit, but then actually got a little freaked out and got away from the window. i want to die in a pitbull attack, not a by lightning strike.

44Driving home last night after Melvins, the streets were chaos.
Medium sized trees, large-sized branches, signs, traffic lights on the ground.
A ton of light poles cocked at strange angles.
The lightning was incredible pre-show (stuck in the Damen Blue Line stop) the rain kept ramping up through umpteen stages of developmental intensity.
But what was even more incredible was the thunder that felt that it would collapse the train tracks above us on sheer sonic force alone.
Like Jesus and Vishnu having a snowball fight, but with trucks.
Anyway. I went in and saw Melvins. They closed the set with a full-on a capella rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner", with harmony throughout and dual-drum accompany from the bridge to the end.
Then they went right into "Boris".
Evening: Win-win.

Hell of a show.
I just walked right in, I was shocked.

46I'm in Wicker Park in a "garden" apartment and we got flooded. Moved most of our stuff to higher ground in the apartment and used quilts and towels to block under the door. Water was pouring in, we spent two hours bailing out our front stairs. Could have been worse though. Gonna go rent a carpet cleaner now. The lightning was awe-inspiring, just beautiful.

47Had anyone here ever worked for ComEd? I'm curious how decisions get made on who gets power back first. I've lived on the north side my entire time here which, for out of towners, is generally the more affluent part of town. I've never had my power out for more than a few hours in 10 years. Last night it was probably down for 2 hours, max.
Then I see the Trib reporting that 220,000 are without power and some will not have it back for days. Who are these people? Why do I always get power back relatively quickly?

49We have unusally strong wings in Warsaw, too. Strong enough to convince me that going to ride bike is not the best of Ideas. But you totally outdone that, Chicago.

50My best pal is in a very nice close-in part of Ukranian Village and still without power.
Last night was awesome. A truly obnoxious amount of thunder and lightening, like in bad horror movies. I drank wine in the basement with my neighbors.
