i love PiL, but even their best albums have moments i can only 'appreciate'.

Entertainment! is perfect all the way through and has maybe the best closing song of any album ever. and Solid Gold is nearly as good!

I completely agree with this statement, and would like to add that PiL had a much better sense of humor than GoF. They also left out all that annoying political shit.

There are soem PiL songs I really, really like, but nothing really grabs me as much as Gang of Four's stuff does.

Wrong about both bands on this point. Go4's lyrics are great. And Lydon was pretty overtly "political" at times: "Careering," "The Suit," "Go Back," "Religion." There is politics in these songs.

Those songs aren't exactly political. They're more critiques of what he views as the snide or disgusting social behavior of the status quo.
