They recommend unbleached cow bone, but i've always used brass for all my other guitar nuts.I actually like the manmade bone Fender uses (cyclovac), but I might be in the minority on that. I've never had issues with tuning using the stock nut that came on my AVRI '62. If you like and are used to brass, why not go brass? I personally think metal hangs up more when using a trem, but maybe I never had a really good cut metal nut.Thats what i'm thinking too. Although, I like the idea of both ends of the scale being anchored to brass (nut and bridge), since the mastery bridge is chrome plated brass. On the other hand, I don't think I'm really gonna be hurting for brightness, since I'm building the guitar around a set of those new Travis Bean JM 500 pickups. I put the question to the Offset Guitar Forum, as well as sent an email to my luthier/tech who's gonna be putting the whole mess together.I started off thinking I'll do a cheap JM build, but as soon as I bought those pickups I realized I had to go with pretty legit quality the rest of the way.

I'm having my tech wire it up using that Rothstein PBT, Series/parallel, master volume mod. That way I can get a "hum bucker" sound by switching to series, if I find the normal pickup setting is too: bright, noisy, thin, etc. I think that'll make the guitar way more versatile than the stock "Rhythm circuit." The passive bass and treble cuts also sound interesting. I'm trying to get Kevin to sell me some of that Thermax wire to cut down on the noise. He told me if I use that wire plus shield the pick guard and cavities, that it would be dead quiet. We'll see.

Different manufacturers use different winding direction and/or polarity, no standardization (I'm looking at you Seymour Duncan WTF?!!!)Yeah, and there's no telling with Kevin. I've got an EGC and i've bought a set of EGC P-90s, a high output hum bucker, and now a set of the JM500's and every single one of them is wired differently. My tech hates kevin and kevin hates my tech. I'm betting there will be an issue with the JMs when he installs them. There really should be some sort of standardized protocol when it comes to pickups. It's a guitar, not a MIG jet.
