It's wonderful, I love it. Initially, I thought that maybe it hadn't hit me as hard as 'Asceticists 2006' purely as there seems to be less content in the form of words, although now I think that the three instrumental tracks on 'Racket' are possibly the strongest material-they certainly rack-up the textural density and detail to an entirely new level for WH. If there is a problem with 'Racket', and I wouldn't expect less from a band which seems to thrive on problems as subject matter, it's that the centrepiece of the album, which would/should provide the big emotional sucker-punch, is a song already familiar from the previous album. 'Dumping More Fucking Rubbish' is certainly more than impressive in itself, and the new expanded arrangement and differing context is interesting, but for me personally it dilutes the power somewhat of what is genuinely, literally in fact, one of the most inspiring pieces of music which i've ever heard. It makes me feel like I can act out my inner life, and make things happen, which is a considerable feat lemme tell ya. So, thank you Whitehouse.
The emphasis on acoustic percussion which seems to have thrown some people off-guard is not massively more pronounced than what can be heard on say, 'Wriggle Like A Fucking Eel'. In any case, there is never any doubt whatsoever with Whitehouse that they are making exactly and precisely the music which they want to hear themselves, and that there are no accidents-every single aspect has been very carefully considered.
If I was going to sell the recent recordings of Whitehouse to someone who had hitherto had zero exposure to them, I would say: Imagine the darkest, most terrifying and truly horrible thought which occurs within your consciousness regularly. Something which genuinely scares you, wears you out, frustrates and depresses you, colouring your experience entirely, maybe even going so far as to incapacitate you. Now, what if you were forced to really focus on that very thing, the unnameable thing which haunts you, could you imagine just for a second what it might feel like if it suddenly disappeared, and wasn't there anymore? What would you do with the rest of your life? Could you possibly imagine what it might feel like?

You partial to punk crumpet?

You would walk around feeling vaguely disappointed. Trust me on this.

I've just gotten into Whitehouse recently, but Great White Death is an incredible album. It doesn't bog you down like some of their other works, and it keeps the high pitched noise to a minimum. I've yet to hear Racket or Asceticists, but I doubt I'll be let down. Whitehouse is an incredible band if you take their diseased outlook with humor.

Maybe the problem is that what you're putting on in the background is inherently not background music.

Yeah, it's in its element live I suppose. I saw Whitehouse live without knowing anything about them or noise and it couldn't have worked any better-being totally ignorant to the subject made it possible for me to be blown away by the experience. Unpleasent but memorable and amazing.

I just posted about them and I realized I never responded to this thread.

Whitehouse, for me, takes music to a level that is unreached by anyone else around. Nothing is as primal as Whitehouse. What a great name! Whitehouse!

This band IS fear, IS anger, and IS hilariously provocative. Kind of like listening to the rantings and ravings of a literate special ed kid who grew up on porno and movies about serial killers. This band IS destruction.
