I love most headless instruments. Partly because I'm just a contrary asshole I think, but also just because Devo and Rush were the first bands I really glommed onto as a kid - and those basses looked like the brutalist future I wanted to live in.

When EGC were still taking custom orders, I really wanted to save up my pennies for an EGC take on a Duke/Steinberger bass. That would have been absolutely stupid so I'm glad he stopped.

I also love most headless instruments (I can also thank Devo for that) honestly. They’re pretty neat-looking.

Solidarity comrade! After thinking about this a bit, I think most of my headless love starts/ends w/ the steinberger-style basses. The example above doesn't horrify me, but I'm not excited about it either. For me it's as much about the functional idea of having everything you need in as small a space as possible. I'd still play something like that in a band though if only to irritate the snobs.

That being said, any of the headless guitars I've tried to play (and full-disclosure, I am absolute shit at guitar and only marginally better at bass so my opinion here is meaningless) have never felt right when trying to play them. I have a Kramer Duke bass and that also took some getting used to (and some setup love) but it's been my #1 most-played bass for some time now.

Love this. I guess it's expensive. Also, probably not likely to be many used on ebay...

I'm actually starting to warm to this. I would want a Tele pickup in the neck and middle, and an L6S pickup in the bridge, though. Make it a little less busy-looking instead of more.

The first instrument I ever bought was a headless bass. The body was a dark blue sparkle with a read pinstripe around the top, almost like binding, but not as close to the edge. The bridge was identical to The Duke. Tuning machine layout was the same too. No idea of the manufacturer or if the neck was aluminum, it all felt like one piece and the back of the neck was dark blue like the body. The weirdest thing about it was that it had no visible pickup. There was a tube-looking piezo under the bridge. I've never seen another one like it. I don't remember how it sounded, but I don't think it was very bass-y. It was not very popular in the band I joined, and I ended up getting what would be the first of many basses with neck problems until I went back to 30" scale a few years ago.

That's like *ALMOST* a cool guitar, imo. I mean the price tag definitely sucks, but one can do a lot worse than a single Filtertron guitar. The pickup is too far forward, imo, and it could use a better looking volume knob. Beyond those things i'd rock a McDonald's fry guitar for a couple hundred bucks. I already own this thing and it's not too far off...

Yeah, it's weird how functionally it's a pretty practical instrument, but then, y'know it's 25k and is fries.
