Got the new 6FS box. Just finsihed listening to it. Sounds great, the music is weird and awesome, and the packaging is really nice. Comes with a cool insert.

Again I never saw Brainiac and have seen 6FS many times, but when comparing the records I still think 6FS is the marginally better band. I don't think the bands sound alike at all but I guess I can see why they are being compared. 6FS has a no wave/early industrial/Chromelike characteristic that pushes it over the finish line for me.

Yeah, the thing about 6FS for me is that they never felt to me like they really veered away from that Chrome template. 6FS never really felt to me like they progressed or evolved their sound a ton, while Brainiac took pains to mutate every time they put out a new record. Brainiac is very clearly a product of hardcore-era Devo, Pere Ubu, and experimental jazz, but they definitely tried to evolve beyond those influences.

Granted, to me this is all really nitpicky. I absolutely love both bands; it just so happens that Brainiac got to me first. (Also I got to see Brainiac 12 times during their initial run and never got to see 6FS, to my chagrin.)
