Xmas is the worst time of the year for shows in Seattle. Since most of the city are from originally not-Seattle, most people are out of town.

New Year's, on the other hand, is a different story. Many good shows then. Melvins/Big Business are doing a NYE bash at the Showbox on the 31st..

(That said, there's plenty to do and see outside shows... and record stores will obviously be open before and after Xmas day.. and you will probably find lots to consume, buy, etc.)

Driving around downtown Seattle during Christmas shopping time is one of my least favorite things to do in Seattle.

....Bump......

Seattle is definitely not crap, but it is overly populated and expensive. I just moved back to St. Louis from Everett,WA (30 miles north of Seattle) last month, and I didn't miss it until I read this thread.

It's a beautiful place, especially north of the city. The drive into Seattle, going south on the I-5 from Everett, could be glorious if the weather conditions were right. The Olympia Mountains on one side, the Cascades on the other, and Mt Rainier straight ahead. I miss the views of Puget Sound as well. I used to love to go to Edmonds just to sit and stare out into the Sound and watch the gulls and boats for hours, it's was very therapeutic. But in reality, those days were few and far between. Most of the time the weather doesn't permit you to see any of this. I lived in my apartment for a week before I knew I had a mountain range outside of my living room window. It took another month before it was clear enough to see Mt Rainier.

I do miss shopping at Wall of Sound. Jeffery, the part owner, is one of the nicest people that I met up there. His band The Spider Trio are great. I would go back to Seattle just to shop in his store...and to visit my old friend rayj.

I've been in Seattle...well, actually Redmond...since Monday. Every time I come here I get bored. I can't find any good bars to hang out in...they're filled with yuppies...I can't find any venues that have good bands playing, and I can't find any good music stores. Is there anything to do around here?!? I'm here till Tuesday, and so far it looks like I'll just be holed up in my hotel room drinking. Whee.
Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.

Chris,

You're in REDMOND.

Take a bus into town. Go to the Lusty Lady on 1st. Go to the new-fangled library on......4th is it? A bus driver will know.

The Seattle Art Museum is down there too. You're here 'til Tuesday?

Bloodhag is at The Funhouse tonight.

Actually, just go here and you can see what's going on around town.

I'd invite you out myself but I'm probably still contagious.

(I think you'll have to scroll to the very bottom. How do you link to specific posts?)

Hope that helps, Chris. Redmond blows, by the way. Pretty bad.

Thanks for some info Pure L!

Yeah I know...Redmond does suck. Luckily the company gave me a rental car...a big gas-guzzling '07 Lincoln Navigator. Fucking huge.

I think I'll take your advice and check out Bloodhag. Never heard of them, but the mp3's on their site are convincing enough. What's the Lusty Lady?
Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.
