That first Drive Like Jehu LP. I must be the only person on earth who prefers it over Yank Crime, which is also great.
Heaviest chunk of plastic in my collection by the way.
Huh that one's not on the streaming services it looks like. I haven't heard it in AGES - I know I have the CD somewhere, isn't it the one that says "CD's really fucking blow" or something like that? I'll have to look later....
I’ve always preferred it to Yank/Crime, also. I haven’t heard either in ages, but I listened to Pitchfork awhile back and was reminded how good they were.

Right around when Froberg died I was really getting into Hot Snakes for the first time and I remember there was an interview where he was very self-deprecating about the long songs in Jehu and "putting the audience through all that" or something similar.
I dunno man....listening back to the first one earlier today and yank crime now, I think it works just fine.

Yank Crime sound a bit more... tight, focused maybe, super strong production. I get why most people prefer it.
But still, the debut has some authentic rawness and power, it grabs me the most.

Sounds like Gillian Welch fronting Magnolia Electric Company.

Henry Threadgill "legacy band(s)" performances from this past weekend in NYC.
Different line-ups playing the music of various Threadgill groups throughout the years...

Hey everybody.
I got some new hifi stuff, but what actually compelled me to come out of hiding was this guy:
Chris Harford.
He lives in my little town. I saw him play with a band in our little theatre down the street. I discovered his whole catalog on Tidal and have been working my way through it. I am kind of awed by some of these songs, and the numerous styles and moods. I don't normally swoon over bands or artists, well at least not since Kowloon Walled City. This is real singer songwriter stuff. He has some roots on Boston (as do I) but that is pure coincidence. Well, maybe some cosmic force has dropped me here in the woods so near another man who has played the Rat or Bunrattys. But i am digging these records.
That's what i am listening to today.

Post-Fleetwood Mac, pre-Sentimental Lady, Bob Welch's power-trio, "Paris" is surprisingly rocking. This band also later featured Hunter Sales (!)
