Re: What are you listening to right now?
4392In Black America , a show on our local NPR affiliate that is syndicated, but I’m not sure how syndicated it is. The host, John L Hanson Jr, sounds like he’s reading from cue cards. The guest is usually some business owner, so-and-so who owns a real estate business or whatever. It should be called In Black Capitalism , at this point.
John Hanson Jr is a lovely man, based on interviews I’ve heard with him outside of his show. His show sucks, though, from the cheesy 80’s saxophone theme, to the usually bad connection with whatever business owner he’s talking to. The good episodes are always reruns from 20 years ago. Time to give this airspace to less pedestrian matters, methinks. It always sounds so neutered.
I was born into a mostly white body, so I know it probably isn’t my place to criticize this show. Still…Mr Hanson, I think it’s time to pass the mic down a generation or two. 45 years is a good run.

4397Yves Tumor & Nina (from Bar Italia) - We Don’t Count
Sort of messily perfect, to the point, and the video features attractive and fashionable people filming each other in the practice space having fun and vamping and singing for the camera, like its a totally natural thing to do. Feels almost dashed off in the best way, like it just happened.
I really hope Yves Tumor makes more music like this but it seems like just a single. I’m not so much into the digital technicolor sleaze production that is featured in their other records, but my ears are perked up for sure.
Plus, they pissed off a half-empty stadium full of edm nimrods, so more power to them.

Music is actually pretty good, singer is so monotonous and ultimately boring

4400Tortuously but in a good way I've had "Flamethrower" stuck in my head for over a week. I remember in the before times this community could fuck with "Centerfold" which is weird because "Flamethrower" is objectively the better song.
