Bingo. And Donald ain't the answer. If we're lucky, he's ruined the agencies to the point that they could be brought back better. He may have opened the door unwittingly to socialized healthcare in the future. Hopefully the rancid Democratic leadership gets kicked out and we see on the left a sort of teaparty movement, for the lack of a better label.

i'm trying to think of examples where this has happened. it would require some master leadership, and i'm not sure where that's coming from. once trust is gone, it's very hard to regain it. we're teaching our kids not to trust government authority. it's going to take more than one generation to fix this mess.

Technically, it took more than one generation to fuck it over. We're living at the apex of decades and decades of planning and building for this moment by conservatives. It's a coup, for sure. They don't even hide it anymore, they're flaunting that they don't give a shit about the constitution and only the courts have been holding them accountable, but they are already openly ignoring the courts.

My teachers' union is having a walk-out on Thursday. Hundreds (hopefully thousands) of teachers are going to the capitol to protest funding cuts at the state and national level. The gutting of the Department of Ed is also a talking point.

"Last time" there was a thread to support orgs and initiatives in the fight, maybe some talk of protests.
"This time" there's nothing on here of the sort. It's kind of shocking to be honest.

I haven't been out as much as I've been in decades past. Started a new job in February which has grabbed much of my time, but as soon as I become comfortable drafting my schedule I see myself getting back out there. I don't mean to scold, just watching from afar and aghast, afraid.
I imagine what things would be like in Germany if the AfD managed to get in power and try to start massive "remigration" (unfortunately not at all an unlikely scenario in the medium-term) and I try to imagine how I would act or what I could do. When I'm back in the States for a visit it always strikes me how absolutely huge the US is by comparison (of course) and its capacity to absorb things, diffuse things in a sense, compared to here. Also, I live basically at absolute Ground Zero (Berlin, Neukölln) when it comes to fascist fantasies of "reshaping" society here, the struggle would be all around me, unavoidable. We'd be talking about my kid's friends etc., many of their parents (almost all) are recent immigrants from all over the place. I probably need to figure out how to prepare here, honestly.

Fuck.

Let's start a thread in any case. I honestly don't have any leads, but maybe we can pool info on protests, actions and possible donations.
I also totally realise why some may be far less willing to speak publicly about things online than 8 years ago.
