Incantation had been flying under my radar for awhile but I am happy to report that it's a solid found footage entry into the "cursed film" subgenre. Super spooky storytelling with interlocking pieces that draws the viewer into the mechanics of the film. No jump scares or shaky camera work, just unadulterated unease and dread for almost two hours. A+

The Sentinel (1977)

United by Rosemary's Baby and Tod Browning's Freaks this crazypants slow burn occult horror gem has a stacked cast with Beverly D'Angelo masturbating, Burgess Meredith mincing about, a mustachioed Chris Sarandon, and Jerry Orbach. Not as famous as the other devil pictures of the 70s and that's a shame.

I love this one and agree that it should be at least as big as other '70s devil movies. This and The Visitor.

The Ugly Stepsister is decent enough, maybe a teeeensy bit overhyped. Norwegian. Kinda Substance-y. A little bit funny. One scene in particular made me wince. B+

Creepy, bizarre, sinister, fucked-up, hilarious, all sorts of wrong in the most delightful way. Best Wishes to All is the weirdest and best J-horror I've watched in a minute. No ghosts or curses, but a critique on how happiness is derived from other's suffering. I feel a bit lazy referencing Lanthimos but everything is just so effortlessly surreal and funny and dark I can't help it. Also strong Shirley Jackson's The Lottery and Midsommar vibes. Strong debut from director Yuta Shimotsu. Super impressive! Stay away from the trailer!

Also watched Marshmallow. It was okay. Horror-loving parents should be entertained watching it with their horror-loving kids. Retro-slasher, summer camp deal with the requisite twist.

Best Wishes to All tho...holy moly.

Watched this with my (adult) daughters and it did little for any of us - but I am a known Lanthimos hater so it probably makes sense.
Scariest J horror I’ve seen in years was Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Chime. Hard to access due to its NFT key rental system but oh so worth it. Absolutely taut, delivers its ugly payload in about 45 minutes.
