I second the first Emperor album! I just started getting back into black metal thanks to the nightly black metal show on Sirius. As a teenager, I was quite fond of the "first wave" bands, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Possessed etc. Although I wouldn't put the suck ratio at 99.9%, most of it is pretty bad. Satyricon, Burzum, Mayhem, Amon Amarth, and Satanic Warmaster certainly have their moments of greatness. I don't know if any, or all, of these bands qualify as "black metal" though.

A) Write songs with two parts
B) Let someone who knows what they're doing record you because you obviously have no idea as to what a record should sound like
C) Get rid of that make-up because you look like clowns that have unsteady hands
You really should listen to Ulver. Very different from most black metal. Some of their newer stuff is almost ambient. Their early material is more like traditional BM, but they have really progressed since then.
