Yes!
And I'll second Kaki King.
Focusing on people who are not as famous as Neil Young, Prince, or David Byrne, and drawing from a pretty narrow pool of "indie rock":
I've always loved John McLean's guitar in Six Finger Satellite, but I've rarely heard him mentioned for his guitar playing.
Stephen Wray Lobdell is incredible...the Davis Redford Triad's Mystical Path of the Number 86 is among my favorite albums of electric guitar freakouts.
I know little of John Myers' other work as a guitarist, but his short album Blastula is among my favorite recordings composed primarily of electric guitars.
Dylan Carlson has done some great shit with his guitar, from the slow-motion, heavily distorted stuff like Extra-Capsular Extraction through the current slow-motion, reverb-heavy, Cormac McCarthy-inspired work.
Yanni Papadopoulos of Stinking Lizaveta is awe-inspiring live.
Michio Kurihara impressed me in the band White Heaven.
Mark Shippy comes to mind, as well.
