A good band, but I don't understand why people shit themselves over them.
They have some good songs, but not 5000 good songs and they have made some good records but not 200 good records.
And thier best songs should be twice as long for twice the fun, but they are not.

And Pollard's Daltry impersonations are funny but not revolutionary in spite of what Spin and Magnet and Jim Greer had to say.
They just made it big off of Pavement and Sebadoh's coatails.
But that's ok because I think Poison were a good dumb rock n roll band (no, really) and they made it after Gun's n Roses (who were a Great dumb rock n roll band).
And that's the way rock n roll goes.

But stop giving them more credit than they are due.

Blur were a better band by miles and miles and miles.
Shit, Oasis were too, and they looked way cooler.
And rock n roll stars should look cool, not like 4th grade teachers who worship R.E.M. and Genesis.

(Supergrass were better than all those groups combined and were actually young and looked cool and should have sold a billion but thats the way rock n roll goes)

Somebody remind me not to invite you to my next bbq. Man, you'll just stand around and bum everbody out. It's obvious that GBV is not for you. That's ok-just sayin.

GBV are a band for me.
I got the records by them I like.

I don't have every piece of product that Pollard puts out in his attempt to make sure he has a nice retirement. (He understands fanboys who will buy everything, the way he collects shit he likes. I'm just not a fanboy like that.)

Why would GBV ever be beyond any criticism, like, "Ok Robert, did you REALLY have to put out another box set, because most of the stuff on it is not worth anyone's time. Really."

GBV rip of old styles same as Blur and Oasis. But American indi nerds just think Blur are not as "cool" as GBV because they aren't on Matador or whatever. Fuck that, Blur never put out a bad record. That's a better track record than GBV. Plus a song like "For Tommarow" is just as good as anything GBV ever did and the record doesn't have crap production. Oasis has better songs that GBV and a better singer too. And dress better. And had hotter girlfriends. So who's a better Rock n Roll band?
Guns n Roses were a great band. Period.
Fuck you if you are an anti Hard Rock snob.
Poison were a good (admittedly goofy) band too.
Live they rocked better than GBV ever could and unlike Pollard's unfullfilled fantasies, they rocked ARENAS in front of hott chicks instead of playing the Metro infront of a bunch of pimply faced college radio djs.

I can like GBV and GnR and Blur and Can and Killing Joke and The Beatles and James Brown and Bathory and whatever the fuck I like.
It's all just Rock n Roll to me.

I don't think I would enjoy your B-B-Q anyway because it would probably be a bunch of losers boys standing around talking about obscure 7"singles with a bunch of virgin girls who look like librarians.

Each to their own barbecues, I guess.

from harpmagazine.com:

Robert Pollard Launches Exclusive Singles Club
Fred Mills
June 20, 2007

Starting June 22, and on the 22nd of every month thereafter for an entire year, Robert Pollard’s new indie imprint Happy Jack Rock Records will be issuing a new installment in his new (duh) Singles Series. Modeled after the classic Sub Pop Singles Series, the 7” 45s will be available for purchase as a 12-month subscription or one at a time.

The A side of each single will be a song from Robert Pollard's upcoming simultaneous releases (Oct. 9) on Merge Records, Standard Gargoyle Decisions and Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love, while the B side will be a non album cut.

The records will only be available, through the official Robert Pollard website. And while, as we all know, indie record stores will inevitably find a way to purchase quantities for retail resell (not to mention the inevitable eBay hoarders), don’t necessarily bank on that—queue up now, because the likelihood is that the 45s will in fact sell out, and a subscription is probably advisable. As of this writing there was no indication how limited the quantities for each title will be.

Happy Jack Rock Records Release Schedule:

June 22 HJRR-1 Rud Fins b/w Piss Along You Bird
July 22 HJRR-2 Spider Eyes b/w Battle For Mankind
August 22 HJRR-3 Current Desperation (Angels Speak Of Nothing) b/w Met Her At A Seance
September 22 HJRR-4 Pill Gone Girl b/w Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love
October 22 HJRR-5 Shadow Port b/w Be In The Wild Place
November 22 HJRR-6 Count Us In b/w Sixland (John Shough Version)
December 22 HJRR-7 Dumb Lady b/w Street Velocity

January 22 HJRR-8 Youth Leagues b/w Spirit Of The Fly
February 22 HJRR-9 Folded Claws b/w Speak Again
March 22 HJRR-10 When We Were Slaves b/w Battle For Mankind 2
April 22 HJRR-11 The Killers b/w Revolver Tricks (Stanley West)
May 22 HJRR-12 Miles Under The Skin b/w Frostman (Long Version)

I just received the first installment in the mail, and it's definitely NOT CRAP.
