I do like yellowfin sushi, I'll see what kind of canned tuna is at the Aldi this weekend.

Not for me either. You definitely have to get that one in oil because it's often dry as a bone. Albacore also has 3 times the amount of mercury that skipjack (chunk light) does. Lately though I've switched to canned salmon when I want either of these things. Works great in salads and your standard sandwich. It has much lower levels of mercury and most of it is way more sustainably caught in Alaska.

I'm a hardened omnivore, but I'll have entire weeks or months where I don't eat any meat. I don't think I could ever go vegan because I love eggs and cheese too much. I voted "eat plant-based when I can" because I've been eating less meat lately mostly for health & environmental reasons. If they can make an Impossible cheese like they've done with meat I could probably go full vegan if I need be.

This is good to know. I wasn't aware of this.
WHOOPS. I said amberjack but I meant skipjack!

Anyway, in terms of methylmercury, it's still totally safe to have albacore like 3 times a month. Skipjack 3 times as many times. Salmon basically as often as you want.

This chart also shows canned albacore and canned skipjack to be about the same. The rest of the internet seems to say otherwise though.

The big takeaway here is that the larger and older the fish, the more mercury - because they eat the smaller fish with mercury in it. Compare anchovy to swordfish. Most of the shellfish and mollusks have very little.
