I don't always mind paying 20-30 bucks for a good LP, new or otherwise. Basically because I want to support bands I like's attempts to support a medium I love (boy, that was an awkward sentence)...
So far, the most I paid for an LP was 105 bucks for This Heat's first LP. Oh yes, it was worth it. The recording sounds SO MUCH better than the CD...I have some Whitehouse stuff, but will not pay collector pricing. I'd rather buy the CD's direct from them. Collectors suck, although lack of quality access also sucks, and makes me something of a collector myself. I guess money is what sucks...or inappropriate inflation...etc.

72I bought a copy of Napalm Death's From Enslavement to Oblideration, first pressing, gatefold double LP. That was my first collectible, soon to be followed by a ton of ridiculous purchases that include an OOP Los Natas 10" that was waaaay too expensive, and no one probably cares about and loves but me, so I dunno if it really qualifies as collectible.
But I'D collect it. And did.

I wonder if anyone cares about that one anymore. It was expensive in 1994, right after I bought it.

Aaah, the other Das Damen fans outs himself!
I AM NO LONGER ALONE.
I've got Marshmellow Conspiracy too. Picked it up for almost nothingi n '97. I really like Jupiter Eye.
First collectable record I bought was that "Talking Heads Live on Tour" radio promo Lp with bugs bunny on the sleeve.
Next was possibly The New Record by... by My Bloody Valentine. three quid in 1990, not bad.
I picked up On The Beach in Tunbridge Wells and a little later in Canterbury for £6 and £2.50 mid '90s. I gave the second copy to my best friend.
Most recent collectable-ish purchase was "Air Lore" Cd by Henry Theadgill.

No you're not. Do you want to sell the Schwump 45? How Much?
Arson Smith stated:
Surprisingly, that's never happened to me. Yet.
If a price I pay for a record is greater than the price I've ever sold a record for, it may happen.
First 'collector' purchase: a mint promo copy of The Beatles' Something New, which I bought from some store in Arlington Heights in '75.

so yeah, I'm totally lame.

You may then legitimately ask yourself "Mother Of Fuck - have I actually gone completely mental?!"

It might be a fake- There was a good pirate copy manufactured (and it's still my favorite Talking Heads lp).
The record store I worked in 1980-1991 had an incredible bootleg selection. Most of the clientele were true music fans, and although I felt creepy about selling bootlegs, I also felt like a hypocrite, because I bought allot of the Beatles and Hendrix bootlegs as well.
Jerry Harrison came in to the shop and saw the "Talking Heads Live On Tour" pirate and reported us to the authorities. The FBI came in and took all the bootlegs away. No one was prosecuted, because it wasn't illegal to SELL bootlegs, just make them. The stock was taken as evidence, to the tune of over $20,000.00 1982 dollars. Ouch.

76Not really into the collecting thing, but I did give about 70 dollars for, laugh if you will, that Ambient Works 2 by Aphex Twin. Hell, I like that album and damned if I 'm gonna hear it in twenty years. Hence the babyshit brown triple vinyl. Has some kind of serial number on it. Fuck that. 70 dollars, three records, no problem with that.
I seem to have a bunch of stuff where people say, "jeez, you know how much this is worth?"
No. Put it on, or find something else.

77Apparently Polvo's triple 7" album Celebrate The New Dark Age is pretty collectable, as a copy just sold for $100.

78Probably Killdozer's For Ladies Only picture disc.
Around that same time, I bought the Butthole Surfers' limited edition Double Live LP. Because it's OOP now, they have posted its entire content on their Latino Bugger Veil website as mp3s. There's a touchingly reverential cover of REM's "The One I Love" on there that actually rocks pretty good.
I did buy one of those "collectible" Psychic TV records, the one with the audio recording of the Jonestown Massacre. I did not buy it with any collector's intent. A friend told me about it and I just wanted to hear what it sounded like. It was pretty lame, actually.

79The Jesus Lizard's "Fly On The Wall" ep is still in print? I have it. I also have what I believe to be a super rare Fugazi EP.
Side One features "Song Number One" and "Bad Mouth". Side Two features "Waiting Room" and "Burning"
Says it was recorded June 1989 in Los Angeles California.

80iirc i've never paid much for something considered rare...
$15 for a copy of the meters' 'look ka py-py'. the clerk tried to tell me the price was a mistake, but i fought for it.
silver apples first with poster intact, for 50 cents at a church yard sale.
$8 for my bloody valentine ecstasy and wine.
and back in the day i bought nirvana bleach on white vinyl from someone who thought they were pulling one over on me for selling it for $30. sucker.
the funniest for me though is being involved in rare records. i did the graphic design for a modest mouse cd that i see on ebay for a lot of money. wish i'd gotten more promo copies of that one.
