Wow. No response from anyone about Jennifer Tilly winning.

Well, how about this one?

Chris Moneymaker, the infamous winner of the 2003 WSOP $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship event, has not been at the 2005 WSOP playing events.

Instead...

He's on an advertising tour for Canadian Club Whiskey, currently in Baton Rouge, LA. He was in the local Winn-Dixie playing heads-up poker against some college kid for free.

Don't believe me? Here's a pic.

Here's the thread where you can read all about it.

Hey Russ, Glad you liked the book -- it's a fun one to read especially with all these events gearing up. I was wondering if that was the Bound Jennifer Tilly and, holy moly, it is.

As far as tourneys, I like the low-stakes sit-n-gos (as Flaneur on UB) for about 45 minutes of play for $1+$.10 and $5+$.50. The thing I've realized, though, is that in a standard cash game you can avoid certain players and pick on the ones whose weaknesses are especially compatible with your strengths -- but in a 10-seat or even 6-seat game, you have to be able to beat all kinds of players. And since it's winner-take-all (top three or two, anyway), there's no breaking even. I've done a few heads-up sng's and like those, again with low stakes, as a way to practice reading a single opponent instead of a table of them, and when there's a beatable player who wants to keep playing, that's nice.

Flaneur wrote:Wow, winning with a 10-3 at 3:52 a.m.? Can't wait to see the broadcast of these -- ESPN's still covering all the tourneys this year?

I know. I know. It's so reminicient of the 10-2, it gives me shivers.

ESPN was going to have the $2000 NLHE event final table on the TV stage, but once they saw who was at the final table of the $5k SH (short-handed) NLHE event (Brunson, Scotty Nguyen, Layne Flack, etc.) they switched 'em.

I tried as hard as I could to stay up and watch the hand reports coming back from CardPlayer.com to see if he would do it, but I couldn't do it.

This is so awesome.

Time to catch up before tomorrow and the start of the $10,000 Main Event.

Event 29: $2000 NLHE
Winner: Laurence Gosney ($483k)
Image

Event 30: $1500 Limit Razz
Winner: O'neil Longson ($125k)
Image

Event 32: $5000 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo
Winner: David Chiu ($347k)
Image

Event 33: $3000 NLHE
Winner: Andrew Boyer ($683k)
Image

Event 34: $1000 Seniors NLHE
Winner: Paul McKinney ($202k)
Image

Event 35: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha
Winner: Rafi Amit ($500k)

No picture, but there was an interesting event that happened when this tournament was heads-up. Rafi utter the word 'Fuck' and at the WSOP there is a strict "No F-bomb" rule. Others heard him say it, and the penalty is 10 minutes away from the table. Normally, this isn't such a huge deal, but since it was heads-up, his opponent Vinny Vinh was able to rebuild his dwindling chip stack and hold on for another hour before Amit won it all.

Event 36: $3000 Limit HE
Winner: Todd Witteles ($347k)
Image

Event 37: $1000 NLHE w/ Rebuys (Entries 894 + 1584 rebuys)
Winner: Jon Heneghan (not Johnny World) ($611k)

Event 39: $5000 No-Limit Duece to Seven Lowball w/ Rebuys (Entries 65 + 139 rebuys)

Final table:
Place Name Prize
1 Mark Weitzman (Los Angeles, CA, USA) $322,000 Chips
2 Dewey Tomko (Winter Haven, FL, USA) $190,000 Chips
3 Jeffrey Lisandro (Salerno, Italy) $185,000 Chips
4 Russell Salzer (Las Vegas, NV, USA) $132,000 Chips

Here is the CardPlayer.com points breakdown of all the players in all the events. Kind of a Player of the Series type of tally. Surely, the winner of the Main Event will probably top this list in the end.

Hard to make that look good. Anyway, it's a good gauge of who is playing well this year at the WSOP. Check out Allen Cunnningham with 4 final tables.

Tomorrow, the first field of ~2200 players play down to 650.
The next day, the second field of ~2200 play down to 650.
The next day, the third feild of ~2200 play down to 650.
The fourth day, the "day 2" of the event, starts with the combined field and plays down to between 500 and 1000 players.
"Day 3" starts with between 500 - 100 and plays down to 200 - 400.
"Day 4" plays down to 100 - 150.
"Day 5" plays down to 3 tables (27 players)
"Day 6" moves to Binions Horseshoe down to the final table (9 players)
"Day 7" is the final table.

Or to put it another way:

"[EACH PLAYER STARTS WITH 10,000 IN CHIPS.] EACH LEVEL WILL LAST TWO HOURS, WITH A 15-MINUTE BREAK AFTER EVERY LEVEL. THE FIELD WILL BE SPLIT OVER FIRST THREE DAYS AND WILL COMBINE ON DAY FOUR. DAYS FOUR FIVE AND SIX WILL PLAY FIVE LEVELS EACH. DAY SEVEN WILL BE PLAYED DOWN TO 36 (this is a discrepancy) PLAYERS. DAY EIGHT WILL BE PLAYED DOWN TO THE FINAL NINE PLAYERS. PLAY RESUMES AT NOON EACH DAY. 4% of the total entry pool will be withheld for the house. 2% of the total entry pool will be withheld for tournament staff."

The winner is looking at $10 Million. Everyone who makes it to the final table will leave at least a million dollars richer.

It should make for an exciting 9 days.
