This is my favourite hair-metal related story, and it's sadly been forgotten by most.

In the 80s, during MC's moments of peak popularity (at least in Europe), there was a seriously long-running 'conspiracy' (if you could call it that) theory that Nikki Sixx had died and been replaced by an dopplganger.

The British metal press ran story after story with photos proving that the man they were calling Nikki Sixx was a replacement, and that the band had hushed-up Nikki's death/disappearance.

I think the guitarist died and they just kept him on.

My mate Chris was all set to take his black widow to Donnington one year with the express intention of taking Tommy Lee out with a bongy.

I remember all that. The imposter was discovered due to one of them having a belly button that stuck out and the others was in. Ah kerrang.... memories
