Andy was the best.

732Damn. So many great bass lines. I feel like I should be saying more but don’t have it in me right now.

733Yeah, same. Smiths were a very important band for me in my adolescence, and as much as any, were a band I latched onto as a soundtrack for my own physical, emotional, and intellectual changes in that period.jfv wrote: Fri May 19, 2023 6:43 am Damn. 734This is closer to what I wanted to post. This song. This bass line. It could have more closely followed what Marr was doing, but it doesn't. It's fucking awesome. He does this shit all of the time and I love it.
(Marr's part is pretty damn good too... eat your heart out, Peter Buck.)

735Absolutely one of the greatest bassists ever. At least he managed to live his later life without having to reunite with Morrissey. RIP.
I'd rather be throwing darts.

737Martin Amis.
I'm kind of wondering what the Brits on the board's opinions are of Amis.

738Tedious, flashy writer of knuckledragging chattering class bullshit who was lucky enough to receive an entry to the literary world as a birthright.

739Curious too. I HATED Time’s Arrow, which still makes me angry 20 years after I read it. But I’ve considered giving Money a try.iembalm wrote: Sat May 20, 2023 5:14 pm Martin Amis.

Only read one of his dad’s books (Lucky Jim, of course), and I liked that one quite a bit.
Re: RIP v2 - still no cure for death
740I’ve never finished one of Amis’s books, while enjoying parts of them for his famous aerobatic stunt show sentences. I felt immediately sad on reading of his passing, and surprisingly pleased to find out he’d long ago made up with his old friend Julian Barnes. He said a bunch of stupid stuff, recanted much of it, and I’m idiotically disquieted that he’s still not out there, infuriating away.
