Amen. I’ve had the same experience with the Brazilian diaspora. I lived through the lawfare coup against Dilma Rousseff. How people on the outside saw it drove me nuts. Plenty of Jacobin types declaring the Workers’ Party was too centrist and Rousseff deserved to be impeached. For “fiscal peddling”, which involved moving government budgets across departments to avoid interest payments on borrowing. After moving back to England I often made the same mistake of assuming all Brazilians here were conservative coup mongers. They’re not. It’s extremely nuanced. I imagine this is the same with every diaspora.

Yes, there is a reason. Social media algorithms target you with specific types of propaganda that because they know you’ll eat it up. Just like w/ Trump and Qanon and the Facebook boomers. It’s done that way by design, see Trump’s mutually beneficial relationship w/ the tech companies.

The 2nd french/Iranian account you shared from was MAGA and Iranian monarchist propaganda. It’s not just generic ‘pro-Iranian’ content. That woman who runs the account is a real piece of work too. And the bots commenting! You should have seen the shit they were posting too. It took like 2 minutes to verify that last night and it immediately started clogging up my feed w/ that crap afterwards.
