The 2x15 does sound a little different than two of the 1x15s. Deeper bass, a little less clarity with the 2x15.
I can't remember if the port is actually twice as long (which would halve its tuned frequency), or if each speaker has its own port, decoupled by a divider.
Even it is two 'separate' ports, they wouldn't be as 'separate' as if you had two cabinets--their physical connection through the housing would cause the whole thing to resonate differently than 2 separate cabs w/separate housings.
I have both, and I use the two separate cabs live, strictly for convenience. Recording, I sometimes use the 2x15.

excuse me for not reading through the rest of this thread yet, but can that bassman really power those two cabs?

Yes, it's a bassman 100. but we don't use it, except as backup. we instead use the ts-50b into stereo power amp...

tone tubby can recone it with a hempcone. these speakers get excellent reviews and you can choose between 4/8/16 ohms. don't know the price.

Ok, I finally came to building a cab like this, I'm going to do it by the TL606 plans and I have a few questions:
In the plans there's the "construction view" figure where you can see the inner frame of the cab, maybe I should call it the foundation. fuck my english. Anyhow, there are the back cleats, horizontal and vertical ones. Now which is sitting on which? I mean the horizontal is above and underneath the vertical cleats or vice versa? or actually it doesn't really matter? To me it seems like the vertical cleats are placed between the top and bottom cleats.
The Mesa cabs have the speaker mounted from the front, while the EV ones have it mounted from the back. I think I will mount it from the front. How is it going to change the sound of the cab? how much should I take the baffle in? 3/4"?
thanks,
eliya
