seconded.
I don't mind having a smoke once in a while, but if anything, sharing an apartment with two potheads keeps me out of that stuff. The opium den feel that a lot of head's places look like doesn't work for me, either
Yeah, maybe its not as harmful as alcohol, but it definitely won't get you anywhere, either.

And yet, this is the first compelling post I have read in the entire thread.
Salut! Chozo! Your memory, she is to bring a tear to this arguable-pothead's eye! Dry mouth, but wet eyes! Such dichotomy!
Salut!

You can even get by in school, since you are going to be sort of pulled along by the instructors and your class schedule. But, if you want to be a serious adult and achieve and enjoy the things that adults do, put down the grass binkie and grow the fuck up.
I see no shame in a guy making a living delivering packages, or doing some other "menial" or "unrewarding" task. I have a lot of friends who play in bands, which is probably their true vocation, but work "menial" and "unrewarding" jobs to pay their bills and survive. Even if they did not play music or pursue some other creative endeavor, I don't really see any reason to look down one's nose at all the working stiffs out there who do the many unpleasant jobs that need doing.
Having said that, I am a lawyer. I have sampled the marijuana in my day, and not once have I missed a class, shown up late for work, acted in a childish manner, blown a deadline, or needed to be intellectually "pulled along" by an instructor due to the substance.
It has been my experience that, just as drugs/alcohol can be a crutch to help people get through difficult periods in life, they can be a crutch for people to rely on in explaining why they have not accomplished something they aimed for. I rarely find this excuse credible.
If a person is mired in a life they feel is "menial" and "unrewarding," they should not blame a plant.

Lots of lawyers sniff cocain, and do pot. Maybe a lot of them, just like so many students that kept the habit goin from college. It is just plain childish to say that you are punctual and do pot. You still needed dope to cope.
Once you stop working, and pothead takes over. You dont miss class or an appointment but you wont pass pot time either. Very punctual indeed.

During a September 18 traffic stop, cops smelled a strong odor of pot emanating from Nelson's bus. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up about 1-1/2 pounds of pot and a bag of mushrooms. The drugs were later photographed on the hood of a police cruiser. Nelson, 73, and four other bus passengers (ages 75, 59, 54, and 50) were issued misdemeanor drug possession citations and released at the scene.
1lb is enough for about 400-500 cigarettes depending on how you roll 'em. But they still got off with misdemeanor possession because the cops
knew it was for personal use.

It's interesting to read through these old threads again.
I'm still not smoking anymore. Must have been at least a couple of years now.
Looking back, and currently, it seems that the big weed smokers who are friends of mine all have one thing in common - they all have issues. These issues aren't due to smoking weed, they're there in the first place. It's a shame, because it can be very hard to progress when you're fucked every day.
I'd love to be able to stop (or stop in the past) friends from smoking weed. I've got a friend who has literallly been a hermit the past three or four years since his mum died (he's twenty three) which I blame partly on weed. He smokes every day to blank his mind and play computer games. He's very, very clever, and it's been sad for me to see him turn out worse-off than many other people I know. People often laugh when they are warned that soft drugs lead to hard drugs, but I don't see the funny side so much now since a couple of my mates have taken smack. Why the fuck would you take smack? So stupid in my opinion.
Drink never did anything like that to anyone I know. It sure has some negative impacts, but I wonder if it's as bad overall compared to weed...
I seem to have failed to mention all of the great things about smoking weed here, but nevermind. I was stoned, and.... mmmm.... breakfast cerial!

Tell that to the thousands or even millions of alcoholics, they are stained for life. Liver cancer, Brain Damage, unconsciousness, and life is over. But yeah, drinking is ok. Most of them cannot stop the habit. But yeah it is legal.

Very true. It can fuck people right up.
Most people I know who regularly drink are ok though. Not many weed smokers I know are totally ok in the head. I suppose the question is whether they would be like that in the first place, or if it has had an impact on them.

Problem is the social habit with drinking or pot. If you drink on your own that is weird, drinking along others is mostly pushed because you get the drink in your hands. That is escapism.
Even coffee/coca cola gets you on a high, it stimulates the brain. Caffeine can be hard as well, but is less dangerous overall. but too much can kill you too.
