it must be automated. there's no way some editor is actually making those cuts on purpose.
Dude, Hunter, did you catch everything else about the video?

I'm being too harsh. He might be my new favorite Youtuber. There's just so much to unpack in each video. I've only gotten through a handful. My buddy dropped by last night, and I showed her some of these. We had a great time. The kid seems genuinely nice and enthusiastic about what he is doing, so godspeed. I just happen to find it funny as fuck. Generation gap, whatever. It's fun.

Oh shit! I haven't even watched that one yet. I will right away. I never really understood what math rock was anyway, so I can't wait to learn. (Seriously, these genre terms, they elude me.)

Is there a SRV thread? Of course this guy loves Stevie. What is it about SRV fans being so amazingly square?

Anyway, the youtube guitar channel I most hate seeing in the rec list is that Trogly channel. It seems to be all about speculative purchase click bait. I don't remember exactly. Irks me though.

He seems like a nice enough guy, but it's like he has a never-ending stream of really nice guitars coming through the door, and he clearly knows a lot about them, yet he can't play for shit. Which is fine I guess.
I think that one of the strengths of Trogly's channel is that he is a thoroughly average guitar player. He isn't pretending to be some guitar god when he isn't, and he has been pretty transparent about how he's been practicing to get better as the videos go on (I can say the same thing about Glenn Fricker). I see it as demystifying the process to an extent as his skills have definitely improved as time goes on.

On the subject of Rick Beato, so far the strongest "crap" argument basically boils down to "he likes music that other people like." I ain't got time for that gatekeeping neckbeard bullshit. I think he's very informative and his passion and deep, genuine appreciation for even the most minute aspects of music and music production is infectious. Solid not crap from me.

Yeah, any of what I’m calling crap in this thread just means “I don’t really enjoy it.” Crap/not crap is a helluva binary that even waffle factors don’t really ameliorate. It’s always been a bit ambiguous how harsh or just flippant “crap” are to be taken.

“Professional” YouTubing does irk me a bit. Sure, there’s some good stuff, I just hate how heavily it shapes and favors content towards the real slick side of things, homogenized formats, trend chasing, and click bait packaging. It also foster huge echo chambers in the various “communities.” It’s a bummer in many ways.

Good stuff manages to accommodate or buck those factors in different ways, but it just isn’t nearly as easy to jump right to “some dude” laying out specific niche information. If you do find it, YouTube will fight you numb trying to get you to click on some 5 Watt World video where the guy basically reads to his GearPage buddies the Wikipedia entry on a guitar he’s never actually held but sees a viewership opportunity for. That dude also seems like a nice guy. I also hate his videos. Maybe it is snobby, but I don’t mind the other stuff existing as much as I want for weird stuff or innovation. Or maybe I do just want to see people more like me or who have tastes more like mine teach or entertain me on things I find interesting. Always was and always will be harder than finding someone go on about David Gilmore or whatever.

I wish Chris Jury had a chill YouTube channel.
