Black Flag was great through the early 80's. Like most (if not all) rock bands, the crapulence factor was increased as they plodded on. It's natural progression, and a fact of life.

Like the wise man said, you have had all of your life to write the first album. Everything after that is on a schedule. Look at Television, for crissakes.
